The best thing about Del Toro's movies is that the action always takes the back seat to some sort of personal story (even if it's something cliche, like Hellboy being a dad).
I'm anxious to see what the production design is like. I have a feeling it's going to be something very fresh.

^ I get a vague Voltron (Go-Lion) vibe from that costume and I like it.

I don't care. The more Elba we the common moviegoer gets in a role where he's very noticeable in...the better.

Del Toro:
Cool. I still can't believe major studio is really letting him nerd out on such a budget.
We had a Tokyo scene that we shot here in Toronto. We had several Hong Kong scenes and a few scenes in Australia, through the television. We briefly see the kaiju take over San Francisco. The whole Pacific Rim needs a sense of danger.
We take the battles far and above! Two or three of them happen in places where there have never been a battle between kaiju and robots. From the bottom of the ocean to the atmosphere of the Earth. We have a battle in a storm at sea. Every battle we try to do differently. One is seen from the point of view of a single person. We never cut away from that point of view.

It's ironic that this isn't even one of his passion projects. It's a tit for tat film that he's doing to fulfill an obligation, so that afterwards he can go ahead and really do a passion project. I doubt it'll be Mountains of Madness, but it will be something from the heart.

The fact that he actually uses the phrase "places where there have never been a battle between kaiju and robots" has me feeling giddy. It's one thing to try and replicate an underground genre, trying to take it in new directions is something only the brave do. This might be the closest thing we get to a live-action Voltron done correctly (emphasis on the last part). Any chance of some cool ass toys being made to help promote the movie? If they make big kaiju monsters along the lines of the Inhumanoids from the mid 80s, my wallet might get a bit thinner.

You know what? if they had toys for this movie and depending on cool they were...I'd probably get some. They better be big though.

Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi
I don't know why..but this image gets me very very excited for this. More than I was before. Probably cuz it's Gogo Yubari. Just something about her look I guess. Maybe it's the haircut. I don't know..whatever. I want to see a monster.

Must the men have enormous codpieces?
Humor aside, everything I see with this movie makes the little 7 to 9 year old in me giddy.
