Cyborg 2087 (1966) starring Michael Rennie of the original Day the Earth Stood Still. It also starred Warren Stevens, Eduard Franz, Karen Steele, Wendell Corey and John Beck. Quite a cast for a low budget, but still entertaining pic for its time (pun not intended).

There's also The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya. However, it assumes you've been following the series. Ideally, it should be watched after having read the first 4 books (of which the fourth is the one the movie is based on).

Just watched the anime movie last night. Great flick.

According to IMDB, there's been at least 5 film/TV versions of this story. Here's a recent one from 2010:

That is a very good movie. The ending was a bit abrupt, but other than that great movie.

The original Terminator!

Spoiler:
In the future humans have created cyborgs as a slave race. The cyborgs revolt and are at war with the humans. A band of cyborg "freedom fighters" infiltrate a complex where the humans have a time travel device. The cyborgs have time to send Rennie back to 1966 before they are captured/killed by the humans. Rennie's mission: to find the scientist who pioneered cyborg technology and kill him, preventing their own creation/existence. The future humans send two hunter/killer cyborgs back to 1966 to prevent Rennie from carrying out his mission. They are unstoppable, indestrucable, and actually called "Terminators"

But you need a region-free DVD player if you want to watch it.

[1] Yes, it has a totally different plot from the anime. That's because they're both sequels to a novel from the 1970s.

FYI, some trivia... Riisa Naka is both the lead in the live action (2010) and the voice actress in the anime.

For another Time Travel movie, am I the only one that enjoys Biggles: Adventures in Time (1986)

There are some good South Korean ones (like Ditto, Il Mare, and My Sassy Girl), and some not-so-good ones (like 2009: Lost Memories).

I also thought Returner was a lot of fun.

I second Mr. Nobody. Just watched it this weekend and it's an intellectual trippy sort of film. Some amazing cinematography and camera tricks. Reminded me of a cross between a Terrence Malick, Kubrick, and Terry Gilliam film except more light-hearted. A little over-long, but if you find string theory, alternate time-lines, and the Big Crunch (look it up) interesting subject matters - then this is the movie for you.

There's a Hong Kong Blu-ray that's Region A and has English subtitles:

Nope. I mentioned that movie a few days ago in this thread.

Of course, the last time I saw it was as a kid, so it might not have aged well.

Re: What are some lesser-known Time Travel flicks?

Thanks. I'll be checking out Netflix streaming to see if they have any of these.

Love time travel movies!

Not a movie, but the Doctor Who episode, "Blink", rocked.

I didn't know it played in theaters in Europe. It was certainly good enough to be a theatrical movie. I always think of it as one of the best TV movies of all time.

The Academy Award nominated short it was based on (12:01 PM) is also great. Kurtwood Smith stars in the story of a repeating hour. That short was in turn based on a short story by Richard Lupoff.

'Groundhog Day' was also based on the '12:01 PM' short. Man I love that short, I watched it many times over the years.

Here it is in its entirety if you want to watch.

I'm gonna second this one. It would be cheap to call it a time traveling Shaun of the Dead but that's the best I can come up with.

Re: What are some lesser-known Time Travel flicks?

I know this is a 5-month bump (hey, cool, time travel within DVDTalk!) but having just stumbled upon this thread, I wanted to add:

Memento. It's not a time-travel movie, per sé, but since the story is told from a reversed-time perspective, it's almost as if the viewer is the one doing the time travelling. Either way, at least worthy of an honorable mention here IMO.

How about Titanic, since we travel from the modern day back to when the Titanic actually sailed, via the memories of Rose?

Also, William Murdoch was a cyborg assassin from the future, traveling back in time to kill the parent of the leader of the resistance.
