The original, though iconic and now something of a cult favorite, and directed with great vigor by Bigelow, isn't exactly an untouchable masterpiece, but it was a frankly-better-than-it-had-any-right to be take on what is by all accounts a stupid concept. Point Break isn't The Third Man, it's not like the notion of remaking it is blasphemous (it's certainly dated as hell and a byproduct of the action movie boom of the 1990s), but I can't see how to improve it. It's not like there's tons of potential in a one-note "extreme sports bank robbers" premise that's just waiting to be re-envisioned. It's not going to desecrate it or anything, it just kind of sounds pointless.

Adding other extreme sports is a cool idea, but it makes it feel like XXX redux.

Judging by the trailer I don't think they could have found two LESS charismatic leads if they tried! That Johnny Utah makes Charlie Hunnam look like Olivier, which I would have thought was fucking impossible!

Wow this really looks bad. It's like they didn't even try to re-create the energy of the first movie. Just took the title, the characters' names, and the premise of an FBI agent infiltrating a group of criminals - and didn't think of anything beyond that.

I think even with that, it'll need a little more.

I'll probably see it at some point regardless, just probably not in theaters. I wonder if Norman and his son did any of the skydiving stuff in this one too (they did Kingsman and Godzilla recently). Nice folks. I say this because I seriously doubt they found somebody as bad ass as Swayze, who took up the sport, was a total natural and did a majority of his own stunt work for the skydives.

Luke Bracey, the actor who plays Johnny Utah, was on The November Man, Endless Love and The Best of Me. Pretty bland actor if you ask me.

He actually played a teenage James Marsden in The Best of Me. Talk about horrible casting.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Point Break a surfing term? This movie looks like it has nothing do with surfing culture like the original did.
