Apparently the joke about it being a “classic” sailed over someone’s head as well since they had to point out it was familiar with another movie.

Re: Warner Brothers to remake Point Break
I'm not even sure why they're calling it Point Break. Like others have mentioned, the same exact story has already been done numerous times already under different names.
At it's core, it's a neat idea...boy scout undercover cop gets drawn into the very illegal world that he/she is trying to bring down. It's been done to death, but each time still seems to be popular. Really who cares what the name of the movie is?
It's like Straw Dogs. I think I mentioned this in the actual thread, but why bother even calling it Straw Dogs? The orginal really isn't a very well known movie and the name "Straw Dogs" means absolutely nothing to the average American movie-goer especially anybody under 30. Most people nowadays don't even know who Sam Peckinpah is. I'm sure a lot of people here do, but this is a movie forum so chances are the overall level of movie knowlege of the people here is a lot higher than the average American that goes to the movies. Once again, the idea of the movie is cool...weeny little dude gets pushed too far and ends up defending his home against thugs. That concept has been done to death over the years too, so what's the point of trying to ride the coattails of a 40 year old movie? Just call it The Locals or The Intruders or something like that. A small percentage of people would just say "hey that sounds just like Straw Dogs" but most people wouldn't get the reference.

Re: Warner Brothers to remake Point Break
The novel on which the original STRAW DOGS was based on was called, "The Siege at Trencher's Farm," although I doubt that would make a good movie title. What I don't understand is why they're always remaking movies based on books without going back to the original book. I'm still waiting for a film version that's true to Jim Thompson's novel, "The Getaway." At least the new KILLER ELITE is not based on the Peckinpah film, nor on the novel that film was based on, but on a NEW book based on the same events. That's something.

Tom Seizemore can be play an undercover dea agent again.......this time though he will have to act all strung out, since his character did a shit load of drugs while undercover.
"you think....... I like...... this hair!?!?"
In this one, he pulls his hair out from his scalp.

On the fence about this one. If they wrangle up a good cast (J Gordon Leavitt vs. Ryan Gosling?) I might get excited.
Alcon Sets Ericson Core To Helm ‘Point Break’ Remake
Ericson Core, the cinematographer who made his feature directorial debut on Invincible, has been set by Alcon Entertainment partners Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove to direct Point Break, the remake of the 1991 action thriller that starred Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. Shooting begins at year’s end and Alcon will release through its Warner Bros output deal.
Any way you cut it, the director of this film is stepping into big shoes. The original was helmed by Kathryn Bigelow, who later won the Oscar with The Hurt Locker and who most recently helmed Zero Dark Thirty. Kosove and Johnson will produce the remake with Michael De Luca, John Baldecchi, Chris Taylor and Kurt Wimmer. The script was written by Wimmer, whose script work includes Salt and Law Abiding Citizen.
They’re setting the remake in the world of international extreme sports, and an undercover FBI agent infiltrates a criminal ring. If done right, this one could work again. The original story was pretty far-fetched (I recall Reeves jumping out of a plane without a parachute to chase down Swazye, who had a parachute), but for me it is one of those movies where, if I am clicking channels and come across it, I’ll stop and watch at any point of the movie.

This is only kind a cult movie anyway, I can't imagine the potential audience for it is all that big. And fuck, that owl is fucking scary.

The Rock slaps his bare perfectly formed ass. As Solid Snake PAC swoons, Brian Cranston deduces that the bank robbers are extreme sports enthusiasts of some kind.
