GL2 will be a hit and get decent reviews IF:
1. Mark Strong returns and is the main Villain
2. Reynolds is dumped
3. The corny College boy "humor" is ditched (read..darker and edgier is GOOD THING. Fuck the goofy GL film*)
4. The story is compelling (It will be is Sinestro is the Villain and Mark Strong plays him)
*If humor absolutely must be in GL2....introduce Guy Gardner as funny... guy... and get a great actor to play him. Let "Hal" be the straight guy.

I wouldn't be surprised if the only reason they've announced a sequel is to boost whatever box office there was left, and kick start home video sales. If people think a sequel's coming out, maybe they'd be more inclined to pick it up in the store. I doubt we'll ever really see a sequel to this any time soon. Maybe a reboot in 10 years.

Can they please stop sucking Greg Berlanti's balls and get some real screenwriting talent on the project already?
I want to see a GREAT Green Lantern movie... too bad they botched it bigtime on the first movie.

It's funny how everyone seems to have different reasons for why Green Lantern didn't blow up the box office. For me it was a little too "by-the-numbers" and lacked interesting characters and a strong villain—very similar to Hulk in many ways.
However it was clear that it was all a setup for a sequel where they would go all out against Sinestro, following the Batman Begins to Dark Knight pattern.

Green Lantern's worldwide total is $176 million. Roughly $125 million short of it's total budget. I don't see home video helping out too much.

Ryan Reynolds Not Interested in Returning as Green Lantern Right Now
It's well known that Warner Bros. is working to bring DC Comics' Justice League to the big screen, but the studio may need to find a new protector of Sector 2814. In an interview today with Empire, Green Lantern star Ryan Reynolds explains that he's not planning on reprising his Hal Jordan role anytime soon.
"I saw how difficult it is to make that concept palatable," he explains, "and how confused it all can be when you don't really know exactly where you're going with it or you don't really know how to access that world properly. That world comic book fans have been accessing for decades and falling in love with. So at this point I have very little interest in joining that kind of world."
He's not willing to completely rule out the possibility that the right creative team could change his mind, however.
"[A] great script and a good director can always turn that around," he admits. "...I believe that Joss Whedon is the guy that just nails it and Christopher Nolan obviously nails it. So if they were gonna do it like that, it would be an interesting thing to do."
Reynolds, who was recently seen in Safe House, is back on the big screen today, providing a voice in DreamWorks Animation's The Croods.

Considering how everyone seems to hate Reynolds in the role, probably for the best it gets recast or they use one of the other Lanterns.

Get the Rock as John Stewart and Vin Diesel as Guy Gardner. Have Guy pummel the crap out of John.
Actually, the Rock would be cool as a Green Lantern.
Nobody hates him. They were just let down by the movie. The Oa stuff was fantastic but the movie seemed in a rush to get away from all that and stay grounded on Earth. The opposite of what a GL movie should be.

I didn't see this mentioned, but this past April, Joseph Kosinski was apparently WB's #1 choice to direct this. David Goyer's also said he'd like to be involved.

Why would Disney have a say in a Green Lantern movie? Isn't that a conflict of interest?

Cg but not understand what a solid script looks like. Great imagery though. He'd be a good move toward it. Goyer would be a huge step back. That man has no imagination.

I still think it would be great if Reynolds and Lively suit up for both a "Green Lantern" sequel and "Justice League" film. True, the first one had some corny moments, but I've seen much worse ("The Legend of Zorro", "The Mummy Returns", "Elektra").

Honestly, I would love to see another Green Lantern movie but not as a sequel. Reboot it or just pretend the first one doesn't exist (like what Marvel did with Ang Lee's Hulk movie). I'm a diehard DC fanboy so I would love to see a good DC Cinematic Universe fully fleshed out like the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yes, give me an Aquaman movie indeed!

I'm actually in the camp that says the third was worse. The main problem with "Quest for Peace" was the insanely-slashed budget, not the story.
