So is there an alternate title to this? I keep seeing Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge listed on sites instead of "Dead Men Tell No Tales."

That's the title used for pretty much everywhere else in the world. Have no idea why they changed it for the US only.

Interesting. Maybe China censors "Dead Men" or something like that?

The DMTNT title has been around since 2013. They didn't change it "for the US only", that is just what it always was here, and changed elsewhere. It is a much better title than "Salazar's Revenge."

Salazar's Revenge would be a decent title if we knew who the fuck Salazar was from any of the other pirates movies. It doesn't make much sense having a title refer to a character, who we've never been introduce to, taking revenge.

Caught this earlier this weekend. While this movie did NOTHING new for the franchise , the ending did leave me feeling as though it was time well spent.

However, I feel they can end the series here and it would be enough.
Spoiler:
Bringing back Davey Jones would get extremely repetitive.

If the post credits teaser is any indicator, yes. Not very enticing is it?

Saw this tonight and found it OK. This would have been a great one and done instead of these mediocre to crappy sequels

Yeah, don't think anyone was clamoring for his return.

I just saw the movie today. I already read the wiki plot to get an idea of the movie.

I thought it was pretty good. The post-credit scene was better than expected. The new director did a good job, imo and they should let him do another one. Some people might say it needed more humor but I think the other Pirates movie had a bit too much of that. I liked the new characters Henry and Carina.

I'd watched Pirates 3 earlier this week for the first time in many years. While Pirates 3 wasn't bad as I remembered it, it was still too damn long with the bloat. Pirates 5 is the shortest one so another reason I liked it.

Sold B from me.

I'd rank them as:
1. Pirates 1
2. Pirates 5
3. Pirates 4
4. Pirates 2
5. Pirates 3

Saw a Matinee of this film yesterday. Really enjoyed it.

My gripes with it (Henry & Carina being odd Plot Devices/Uninteresting and Digital Scrubbed Johnny Depp) didn't hurt my overall enjoyment of it. Most in part due to the action Set Pieces being a whole lot of fun and how awesome Captain Salazar & his crew were!

After Depp's recent comments, one has to wonder if there'll be a Pirates 6.

Those recent comments seem to have come and gone already and were far less of a ding than his alleged spousal abuse. But no, it's unlikely there will be a Pirates 6 with Depp as the lead. After the less than excellent launch for this entry, the advertisements switched to saying "Final Chapter". $680m is a great deal of money world wide, but a pittance compared to the $1 billion+ On Stranger Tides and Dead Man's Chest made and it shows a decided lack of interest.

Silly question in 1,2,3...you don't have to have seen On Stranger Tides to watch this, right?

No, it's not necessary at all. The only carryover is that the Black Pearl is now a ship in a bottle and Barbosa's ship is the Queen Anne's Revenge, which he acquired in On Stranger Tides.

Great prediction! (gives self high five). $172 million domestic take for this franchise is pretty bad.

That being said, rented the blu ray from the library and it was an improvement over the last film. It still had some major pacing issues for a 2hr+ film, but at least it brought in some new characters and some fun cameos. I also thought the action set pieces were the best since the second film. Can't say I'm fully on board for another one, but I would probably watch it.

But the $622 million overseas brings the total box office to $794 million. Not a bad take.

Considering the last one brought in over a billion dollars worldwide, I'd say it's a huge disappointment. I could see them maybe rebooting it later without Depp, but they would be crazy to continue down this path.

Re: Pirates of the Carribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017, Sandberg & Ronning) S: D

Some story questions... During the end battle, Salazar occupies Henry's body so he can walk on the dry part of the ocean floor. How is he able to share Henry's body? If he could do this all along, why didn't he do it earlier in the film so he could chase after Jack whenever Jack was on dry land? Then at some point during the fight, he splits from Henry's body but does so before he gets his hands on the Trident. How is he suddenly able to walk on the dry ocean floor without the curse being broken yet? Finally, how is Will able to return home after the curse is broken when he was stabbed in the heart at the end of At World's End? It's been awhile since I watched that film, but didn't someone remove his heart and lock it in the Dead Men's Chest? I guess we're supposed to assume when the Trident was broken it ended all curses AND returned Will's heart to his chest cavity, which was now magically and completely healed?? But his injury wasn't from a curse, so I don't see the connection.

You're putting way more thought into these movies than the writers of them do.

Probably. The shame of it is I thought they did a decent job honoring the rules and events of the first 4 films until the end battle.
