This is interesting. For those who have the British BBC, they'll be showing Drive with a brand new alternate soundtrack on October 30th. New soundtrack will be released on CD on the 31st. Sounds like a very interesting experiment, considering how good the original soundtrack is.

BBC Will Re-Score 'Drive' With CHVRCHES, Banks, Bastille, SBTRKT, and More
October 20 2014, 4:41 PM ET
The BBC has been on somewhat of a musical roll this fall. A couple of weeks ago, the British media conglomerate enlisted some of music's biggest names — Dave Grohl, Sam Smith, One Direction, Stevie Wonder, and Pharrell — for a surprisingly robust cover of "God Only Knows." Today, BBC host Zane Lowe announced that he has also curated a brand new soundtrack for the 2011 Nicolas Winding Refn film, Drive, which will be released on October 31. The crime flick, which stars Ryan Gosling, saw its soundtrack appear on SPIN's list of 40 Movie Soundtracks That Changed Alternative Music.
Radio 1 Rescores: Drive - Curated by Zane Lowe — which features CHVRCHES, Banks, Bastille, Eric Prydz, SBTRKT, and Laura Mvula — will score the movie when it's broadcast on the BBC television network in the U.K. on October 30 at 10 p.m. Earlier this afternoon, Lowe premiered the first song from the soundtrack, CHVRCHES' synthy but darkly moody "Get Away."
"Never let you get away / I'll hold your hand so you can see," Lauren Mayberry sings sweetly on the track, the second piece of new music we've heard from the Scottish trio since their debut, The Bones Of What You Believe. Stream that and a brief trailer for the re-scored Drive below.

I'll agree this sounds... interesting, but DRIVE already has a phenomenal soundtrack/score. Not sure how it could be improved.

The soundtrack is a huge part of this movies identity, and at the same time, this is one of the only movies where this kind of change would make sense.
It won't be better per se, but it should be an interesting change.

These kinds of things come off neat but never really come right, you know?

Drive is playing on TBS right now. Imagine how the world would be if this movie was in as much rotation as their constant reruns of Law & Order. Oh, that's TNT, right? Nevermind.

I've yet to watch this movie. Why would the BBC bother altering the soundtrack/score?

An experiment w/ the soundtrack. Could be fun. This is a film though that I think really really depends on the music already selected in hand w/ what is happening in the imagery.

Drive's soundtrack was a little polarizing at the time it came out. While I'm surprised the BBC bothered, when I read the press release, I wasn't really surprised given the film.

Seems a pointless exercise to me. But will probably check it out at some point.
I see its BBC Radio 1 that's involved in this, not the TV division. They tend to have some good movie related stuff on their radio and the Kermode movie reviews every Friday are always great.
Oh, and for the record, Downton Abbey is produced and shown by ITV, a different channel in the UK.

slightly off topic but i find this idea interesting...in the commentary for BRICK rian johnson mentions the temp tracks for the film were from TWIN PEAKS and THE THIRD MAN. i'd love to see/hear that cut.

We need Brick on BD. I fucking loved that one. Probably Johnson's best, though I also enjoyed the two after it as well. I wonder if he'd have Levitt in SW too? He's done 3 films w/ him in them.

It's a distinctive soundtrack that sets the mood for the movie, which is tremendously atmospheric. Changing the soundtrack to this movie would have a pretty big impact and I'm curious to see how it turns out.

You should check out Bronson on Netflix, Tom Hardy gives a hell of a performance. Valhalla Rising and Only God Forgives are also on Netflix, but I wasn't a huge fan of either.
Drive comes and goes off Netflix every few months. Was going to throw the Bronson trailer here but then realized it had an awful lot of Tom Hardy cock in it.
