I think it's a film that rewards repeat viewing. I've seen it twice and know there's still more to be found in it.

Agree.
Until you have watched a film at least three times, you haven't truly watched it consciously, and have missed much of what is(or isn't) there. Great films continue to reveal and expand upon more substance, and most films, that are mediocre to lousy, continue to reveal and expand upon how weak and often stupid they are.

Well I saw it with a small group of friends at the theater and I felt very uncomfortable in parts. When the movie ended and we all got up to leave, one of my friends said out loud for the whole theater to hear "Well, alrighty then. Happy holidays everyone!". Everyone laughed.

Watched this movie many, many times now and it just gets better with each viewing. Certainly not an easy movie to watch at moments, but rewarding non the less.
I was disappointed to see that the Digital Copy that comes with the Blu Ray does not have an MP4 version of the movieand just WMV or Android. Apparently Apple does not allow NC-17 movies via their store, hence the lack of the format. Pretty stupid if you ask me.

Wait, so if we rent this from iTunes, we get an edited version?

Watched again last night and i noticed that a lot of scenes have subliminal messages somewhere on screen. For example, at the beginning during the train sequence you see next to the girls head an advertisement for what looks like maybe a health care program with the words "Is this possible?" right next to her head. Also the scene where he bangs the girl from the bar there is graffiti behind her that says "Fuck." I love little touches like this in movies.

I didn't get that vibe either. I did however get reminded of Commodus from Gladiator, during that scene on the couch when he confronted her. Not because Commodus's incest stuff, but Fassbender's character being a dick in that scene reminded me of Commodus's mean personality.

her rendition just made me cringe.
as for the movie this didn't impress me in the slightest, I guess I was going into this with waaaay too much expectation. Sure the two play two messed up individuals, but honestly I thought this was tedious and I honestly didn't care about the characters let the alone the minimal story.

My favorite part in the movie was the argument between Fassbender and Mulligan towards the end in his apartment.

I don't know if it was just me but I also liked the character of Fassbender's boss. He may have not been in it all that long, but he was interesting when he was on screen.

I like the actor, but I despised the character... and I think he was meant to come off as a sleazy, shallow guy. Similar to Brandon, but not in such a dysfunctional way.

I didn't get the incest thing, though. I know they may or may not have been abused as children or were neglected by their parents or both, but it's way too abstract to know for sure. Then again I've only seen it once and thought it was a great film.
