Hunger Games (2012) Ross, Lawrence
Looks like Jennifer Lawrence found herself a franchise.

I have this on my nook and have yet to read it. I have heard they are interesting to say the least and even though they are aimed at the teen market they are more adult in terms of the amount of graphic violence. I have read an interview with the director and he said they are contractually obligated to make a PG-13 movie. I have no problem with that, but I hope they are able to go to "Red Dawn"/"Taken" levels of PG-13 and not the watered down stuff we get in "Mission:Impossible."
If there is a thread already out ther on this, I apologize. I searched back to a year and found nothing. Please don't call me a dumb ass for not trying every trick in the book, or for not posting obligatory photos of Ms. Lawrence in skimpy outfits.

Hailee Steinfeld would have knocked this out of the park. I'm sure Lawrence will be good, but she wouldn't have been my first choice.

She's a bit older than the character, and I think that's what they were going for. Steinfeld would have been great, but maybe the studio was uncomfortable with portraying a story where the gov't forces young kids and teens to kill or be killed. Changing it to older teens and - with subsequent movies - young adults makes it more palatable. (Steinfeld only being able to work 8 hours a day may have also been a factor.)

I've read the books, and they're pretty entertaining.

In fact, sometimes I think half of Groucho's posts in this forum are meant for the IMDB boards.

I had no idea there were people who are under the impression that Hunger Games isn't a Battle Royale rip-off...

I hope Miss Lawrence gives a generous kickback from her salary for this film to whoever made that dress she wore to the Oscars.

Meh.
... and I'll admit that I read all three books and loved them, but I'm not sure that they will be able to faithfully adapt them for the screen.
But I'll watch them and see if they're close.

Wow, she's just another hot chick. I never would've guessed that from her role in Winter's Bone. I think she needs to downplay it because she looks awfully generic.

I'll admit I always pictured Nina Dobrev in this while reading the books... It will be interesting how this will translate and I just don't think pg-13 is going to cut it. Guess we'll see.

I will be expecting the movie to suck just to avoid being disappointed. I loved the books. Not sure if I can see Lawrence as Katniss but we'll see...

If you've read the books, you'd know they are already written pretty PG-13. They would just have to not graphically depict a few moments and it's good to go. Lots of death happens "off-screen" anyway.

^ Like I said, go for old school PG-13 like we used to see in stuff of the mid to late 80s. Not many movies do that anymore; Taken and The Dark Knight were the last ones that truly pushed that envelope IMO (actually the most recent Harry Potter did as well).
