i did enjoy the books for what they were and the trailer looked fine. I can see complaints on he horrible looking costume designs but imo it works for how the books described fashion in the capital. ill def be checking it out.

I'd like to see some ratings evidence for this "huge" teen girl fanbase you speak of. But even if thats the case. The fact remains that Sci-Fi is not a genre that typically appeals to teenage girls.

Is Hunger Games considered Sci-fi? I don't think it is.

It has sci fi elements. I'd put it in the "speculative fiction" category.

This is why it will have a decent female fanbase. It's not hard scifi (no robots or spaceships), and it has a female lead. I haven't read the books yet so I don't know if she's another Bella Swann but the trailer would indicate otherwise...

I've never been real impressed with the writing style of the Harry Potter books ... and I have no desire to read the Twilight series.

Teen girls are more into fantasy than sci-fi, but there are many, many fans of this series. I read the first one expecting fantasy but it's definitely closer to sci-fi ("speculative fiction" is probably the best term mentioned so far). I don't think this will need "genre" fans to succeed.

Katniss would kick the shit out of Bella. There is no comparison.

Many of you are severely underestimating the popularity of this series. The movie is going to be HUGE.

True.. The word I was thinking was 'Dystopian' category..it seems to really be popular in the Young Adult fiction.

She is not Bella Swan, she is a heroine (That is what I gather from talking to my wife about it)

Yeah, these books are incredibly popular. I don't think the movie has to worry about worrying about the teen girl audience.

You realize that at its core, Battle Royale is a political satire, right?

Yeah this definitely has a huge female following, I'm not sure if people are joking on that point (of being sci-fi fans, etc). I was convinced into reading the trilogy by a few female friends, and really enjoyed them. Though the first book was my favorite, and they start to drop in quality after that.

Re: Hunger Games (2012) Ross, Lawrence

The closing shots of the trailer seem quite similar to footage of Black Friday sales making the rounds.

Still looks great to me. All of the pre-publicity has been spot-on. I have high hopes.

Re: Hunger Games (2012) Ross, Lawrence

Kudos to whoever's cutting these trailers for only showing footage from towards the beginning of the film.
