Yogi Bear: the Movie

Yogi, Boo-Boo ready for their close-ups
By Steven Zeitchik
Thu Oct 2, 8:46 AM ET

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - Warner Bros. is taking a trip to Jellystone Park.

The studio is developing a feature version of "Yogi Bear," the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon. "Surf's Up" co-helmer/co-writer Ash Brannon will direct the film.

Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia, who executive produced "That '70s Show" and are writing the feature "Tooth Fairy" for Fox, are penning the screenplay.

The project, culled from Warners' vast library, is planned as a live-action/animated hybrid along the lines of Fox's 2007 hit "Alvin & the Chipmunks." Much of the movie will be live action, but Yogi Bear and sidekick Boo Boo will be done in CG animation.

Yogi Bear first appeared as a supporting character in 1958 in another classic cartoon, "The Huckleberry Hound Show." In 1961, he got his own show, which has aired in reruns frequently over the past half-century.

Yogi's exploits take place in Jellystone Park, where he and Boo Boo get into good-natured mischief and must elude their nemesis, Ranger Smith.

Brannon has worked on such Pixar hits as "Toy Story 2" and "A Bug's Life."

I'll bet $20 there will be at least two fart and/or poop jokes, plus Yogi or BooBoo will be dressed in hip hop gear.

As someone who loves Yogi Bear...probably my favorite cartoon and cartoon character...please don't do this. Please please please.

Yogi's First Christmas is one of my favorite Christmas movies as well.

I'd be there if it was all animated, but I really have no interest in the live action hybrids.

Yeah, at first I wasn't interested because I thought it would be another live-action/cg-animated hybrid. Then I was interested because I saw Ash Brannon's name (I thought Surf's Up was actually good). That interest lasted about one second until I read what I had expected.

Also, I bet they'll have Yogi go to a city for some reason, for some "urban" interaction.

LOL! Only $20.00? Plus, a soundtrack that features (fill in the blank with some at the moment hot teen music artists...and one older rap song).

So let me guess the plot

A mix raced little girl, possibly adopted, is on vacation in Jellystone when she comes across a walking talking bear. Some sort of environmental bad guy is destroying the park and they team up to stop it.

And she teaches Yogi the "very important lesson" that stealing pic-a-nic baskets is wrong.

QFT, but then it'd be more like No Country for Old Bears.

As dubious as this is, I'd rather see this than Alvin and the fucking Chipmunks or Rocky and Bullwinkle.

For the love of God, do not make Sylvester Stallone the voice of Yogi.

Speaking of Alvin and the Chipmunks, I still don't understand why they hired pseudo-celebrities to voice the chipmunks (instead of actual voice actors), when the Audio Engineer is the one doing 90% of the work.

Bonus points if they actually get Jason Mewes.

Sadly, the movie won't have anything near that funny in it.

Re: Yogi Bear: the Movie

Dan Aykroyd is Yogi

Justin Timberlake is Boo-Boo

Anna Faris plays a documentary film maker trying to lure Yogi and Boo-Boo for her new film.

Smells like a shitty movie in the making.

I hear casting isn't going so well for supporting roles. Just look at this:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jOhhHBxJPw8&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jOhhHBxJPw8&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Okay, someone want to start a pool on how many RT reviewers will use the phrase "dumber than the average movie"?

Re: Yogi Bear: the Movie

Will Ferrell doing W. as Ranger Smith, I can see it. I also see Yogi and Boo Boo eating a picnic basket full of beans and it gives them gas problems (fart jokes are funny!). Of course Ranger Smith will be stepping in bear crap as well, and if they try to work in Cindy (from Hey There, It's Yogi Bear ), then they should get Fergie; that way she can sing a song for the soundtrack.

Please, stop this movie now...
