Margot Kidder/Superman 2/Lester Footage

I'm a big fan of SUPERMAN 1 and 2. As I got older, I realized that Margot Kidder doesn't look like Margot Kidder in Richard Lester's footage in Superman 2. It doesn't look like her at all!! There was 2 years in between Donner's footage and Lester's. Does anyone else notice this? I do know she was wearing a wig. I believe Kidder had problem with drugs in the past, but not sure if she was doing them at the time of Superman 2 (Lester's footage). Maybe that's the reason she looks awful in Lester's footage.

I've read that she also had extensive dental work done (dentures?) in between the Donner footage and the Lester re-shoots- which would also account for her haggard appearance.

I was a huge fan of the first film, and the sequel was one of the first movies that I was seriously hyped for. So following whatever info I could (which was a lot harder pre-internet), I was aware that some of the film contained Donner footage. After seeing it a few times, the one element that stood out as being noticeably different was Kidders appearance- sometimes even among different shots within the same scene (Watch her smoking a cigarette in Perry's office just before the Villains show up, and then a couple minutes later when she is cradling Perry's head on the floor).

From what I've heard, she didn't get along with Lester, hated the producers, hated them for replacing Donner, and would have missed Unsworth greatly (since he took such care in lighting her to look as attractive as possible in the first film). There wasn't anybody left on the sequel to make sure she looked as good as possible- and it shows.

She looked diferent but still hot in (1979) AMITTYVILLE HORROR.
Her performance in SUPERMAN 2 is different than in 1 too.
She was flirty & sexy in 1.

Oh my, I would have never thought anyone would have thought this. I accidentally stumbled upon some lewd photos of her and was shocked that they would have even existed. It was like stumbling upon grandma in the buff. No one wants to see that, except maybe grandpa.

I suggest the OP look at Donner's cut of Superman II, which even incorporates some test footage. In the scene shot in the hotel room where she finds out Clark is Superman, I swear she looked a lot like a young Marina Sirtis. Then, back to the rest of the footage where she looks at times like modern day Carrie Fisher. It's the cinematic equivalent of beer goggles, only you don't need to get tested after the movie is over.

It SUPERMAN 1 she looks adorable. PART 2 she looks god awful. Then a year later in AMITYVILLE HORROR, she looks a lot better, but still looks a lot different from SUPERMAN 1. Really weird. From 1977 when she shot SUPERMAN 1 and in 1982 when she filmed SUPERMAN 3, you could swear she aged about 10 years when it was really only 5.

She looks pretty good as host of the Saturday Night Live episode from March 17, 1979 (available on Netflix streaming).

She was on the cover of Rolling Stone in 1981 with an article titled "Portrait of an Excess Addict". I haven't read it...drug use?
