Clash of the Titans II - news, rumors, cast
Jonathan Liebesman signs on for 'Clash of the Titans 2' (exclusive)
Jonathan Liebesman has signed a deal to direct a sequel to “Clash of the Titans” for Warner Bros. and Legendary.
Liebesman had been in contention to nab the directing gig since early June, with negotiations stretching through the summer. Money was a factor, as was the hurdle of overcoming the negative perception of this year's initial installment.
The movie, a remake of the 1981 original, became a worldwide hit for Warners, grossing more than $491 million, although it garnered many negative reviews.
The studio is hoping to right the wrongs, shooting it in 3D (as opposed to have it added during postproduction, as with the first movie) and tapping some of its top scribes to work on it.
Greg Berlanti, one of the writers of “Green Lantern,” Dan Mazeau, who worked for Warners on “The Flash” and “Jonny Quest,” and David Leslie Johnson, writer of “Red Riding Hood,” the studio’s horror thriller starring Amanda Seyfried, worked together on the treatment, with Mazeau and Johnson now writing the script.
Stars Sam Worthington and Gemma Arterton are among the actors expected to return for the second installment.
Liebesman, repped by CAA and Principato-Young, nabbed the gig from the strong footage execs saw of “Battle: Los Angeles,” the director’s upcoming “Black Hawk Down”-style alien invasion movie from Columbia, which showed he could handle large-scale action and intense visual effects. The footage also impressed at Comic-Con, where it stood out from forthcoming wave of alien invasion flicks.

I haven't seen anything related to Battle: Los Angeles so I have no opinion regarding Jonathan Liebesman taking the helm. However, I really liked the Clash of the Titans remake and apparently Louis Leterrier is staying on as producer so I look forward to the sequel.
That said, I wish we'd get a BD release of Louis Leterrier's original cut of the movie. The deleted scenes showed the potential for a better movie.

I have a gigantic crush on Gemma and thought the first was decent although could have been better. I'm down for another one.

I've hated Liebesman's stuff to date but if Battle LA turns out good, I'll start to get excited about this one. I love Greg Berlanti and enjoyed the first one well enough, so hopefully this will turn out good.

Hopefully WB comes through on their corrective action plan. Didn't care for the first one, but would be open to watching an (improved) sequel.

Not a chance I'll see this in the theater, but I'll eventually get around to Netflix'ing.

If done right this could actually be good. First movie sucked ass but a totally separate story and mythology might actually be entertaining.

It'd be interesting if in the script for the sequel, they use elemnts of the script for the remake from when Stephen Norrington was to be the director:
In The Wright/Glenn version of Clash, various different pantheons were mixed together. The Main Villain was the Sumerian Sea Goddess of Death and Destruction, Tiamat. Perseus was originally kidnapped by an avatar of an unidentified Cthonian Earth Goddess, who planned to have him married to Andromeda so as to develop better relations with humanity. The Earth Goddess and Perseus proceed to fall in love. Zeus prepared to engage in war with Tiamat; taking the aids of other Gods (such as Thoth, Marduk, Yahweh and Usiris). A High Priest named Fantasos starts a Cult of Tiamat that quickly conquers the city. Andromeda was originally a promiscuous spoiled Princess who possessed various male sex slaves. Though the mixing of Mythologies, and the Perseus-Earth Goddess romance was abandoned, the concept of a Goddess enraged at arrogant humans and demanding a sacrifice and the Cult of the Evil God (Changed from Tiamat to Hades) was retained into the final production.

Joy. 10 drafts so far. For something that very well may be another mediocre offering.

I thought the first film was a disappointment for the studio, so it's interesting to see them try it again so quickly. I just hope they know that while the bad 3D had a big impact, so did the muddled script.

No question this will be in fake 3D. Any chance Sam will have more than a few lines of dialogue, since he was practically mute in the first one?

I actually fell asleep watching the first one. Something I rarely do, unless the movie is a real piece of shit.
