You were right, nobody dies in The Game, unless you count their father's suicide long before the events of the movie.

Just saw this for a third time. I haven't done that in many years. It's a hell of a film.
I still can't believe this thing has only grossed $90 million. That's still pretty good, and it will make a nice profit, but I thought the whole reason for cutting this to a PG-13 was to get a bigger box office.

Finally got around to seeing it.
Eisenberg was great as Zuckerberg and I thought the movie painted him in a neutral light. A jerk, yes, but one motivated by fitting in and being accepted. Armie Hammer though was the real shocker, turning in an amazing dual performance. I honestly forgot it was one guy and not really twins. Timberlake was also solid as the true sleazebag of the film.
However, I don't see much replay value in the film and I still wasn't 100% interested in the story. Additionally, I don't see the hype over Andrew Garfield. He played a very irritating character that I had no sympathy for.
Overal, it's still an A- (3.5/5) film, but at the bottom of Fincher's filmography; better than Benjamin Button, but on par with Panic Room.

I use the X.5 range for +/- between two letters. 4.5 is an + and I reserve 5 for a near perfect to perfect film.
I personally hate the number/star system.

So A+ isn't a perfect film, but you can't get higher than an A+ so it's got a special designation on top of that? That's different. Always hated the letter grade thing for movies for that reason, never seems to accurately reflect the actual review. Well that and a C for most critics tends to mean a movie is far worse than a C really represents (Average).
Garfield was the most down to earth character in the movie, he did a good job keeping things grounded
Fincher has built himself a pretty respectable filmography outside of Alien 3 and Benjamin Button (which at least got critical acclaim, but god what a boring movie).

Not to keep harping on my review system, but I reserve 5/5 for very few films (they have to be essentially perfect and have a lasting impact or importance) and 0/5 for artistically bankrupt films.
Anyway, I'm actually looking forward to checking out the DVD, just for the commentaries. I'm glad to see they aren't pulling a ZODIAC and dumping a barebones discs quickly.

4. Panic Room
5. Alien 3
6. The Social Network
7. Zodiac
8. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

The Social Network and Zodiac below Panic Room, The Game and Alien 3?
I will have to strongly agree to disagree.
Welcome to the forum.
I think.

1. Fight Club
2. Zodiac
3. The Social Network
4. Seven
5. The Game
6. Panic Room
7. Alien 3
8. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Fight Club tops my list because i've just loved it ever since it came out. I watch it quite a few times a year and have owned it on three different formats. It wouldn't make my all time top 10 but my four favorite Fincher films would be in my top 50.
2. Zodiac
3. The Social Network
4. Seven
5. The Game
6. Panic Room
7. Alien 3
8. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Just saw this for the first time yesterday and I loved it. It's coming out on Bluray on the 11th so I'm glad I'll get to watch it again soon.

David Fincher's one of my favorite directors and here is how I would rank his films from best to worst.
1)Goodfellas
2)Collateral
3)Reservoir Dogs
4)The Departed
5)Heat
6)Casino
7)The Insider
The guy is just an excellent film maker no two ways about it.

Re: The Social Network (Fincher, 2010) — The Reviews Thread
I finally saw this last night (early shipment of my Blu-ray...with no notice from Amazon, whatever) and here are just a few thoughts:
- Much like other Fincher films, there is great irony. The specific example, Zuckerberg's ex joins the site he created because of her. That moment at the end really stuck with me.
- Arron Sorkin has to be, if not completely, the best writer in Hollywood. The man knows his craft and makes it work every single time.
- Zuckerberg in the press is made out to be this villain and he seems to be the exact opposite of that.
- The casting was spot on. Great performances from everyone, including Timberlake, which was a pleasant surprise.
- Reznor & Ross' score is absolute perfection. I had listened to it many times before I saw the film (I am a big Reznor fan), but in the context of the film it works really well.
- Really enjoyed how the film was shot. I think a lot of people expected this incredibly glossy film, given the subjects, but it was downplayed...giving it a much more realistic tone.
- Lastly, in the scope of Fincher's work, this is probably in the top three. Fight Club is his best, followed by Zodiac and The Social Network. And although the subject matter is radically different for all three, there are a TON of commonalities.
Even though I just saw the film, it is probably my second favorite of 2010. The first being Black Swan. An amazing job by an amazing director.
