Predators getting a sequel

Quote:
Predators To Get A Sequel, Robert Rodriguez To Produce
Submitted by Brendon Connelly on July 22, 2010 – 7:00 pm (0) comments

Straight Outa San Diego: Predators is to get a sequel and Robert Rodriguez is to stay on as producer. Here’s why this is a little surprising: the film dropped over 70% of it’s box office in its second weekend. That’s not good.

The figure at the end of that weekend was riding at around $40 million and while I don’t have completely reliable information on what the budget was, nor what the marketing costs ran to, I’m not picturing the sort of balance sheet that would normally trigger a sequel, or at least not so swiftly. Surely a film like Predators really needs to be judged on its performance in the home video market anyway?

We reported a couple of weeks back that director Nimrod Antal had discussed a possible Predators sequel with Rodriguez. His name was left out of the announcement today… simply because he hasn’t signed on? Because he’s too expensive? Or because he just doesn’t want to do it?

Re: Predators getting a sequel

I disliked nearly everything about Predators, but I'm not totally against seeing another one. Actually, depending on the special features, I may even buy Predators on DVD/Blu.

Re: Predators getting a sequel

....so you don't like the film. Yet you might buy it, therefore giving the allusion to the studio that you like it...which in turn warrants a sequel if you and many other people with their own reasons buy it as well. Great logic.

I liked the film. I'd want a sequel. I want the BD.

Re: Predators getting a sequel

I didn't find Predators particularly good, but it wasn't bad either. It did well enough with the characters that I'd see a sequel.

Re: Predators getting a sequel

I enjoyed it a lot, so I'm all for a sequel. Also, having Robert Rodriguez on board means that box office doesn't matter as much. He can basically do the whole movie out of his house.

Re: Predators getting a sequel

They need to step up their game on this next one. But I would guess they are betting on DVD/Blu-ray sales to spur interest in a sequel.

Yeah, the fact that Rodriguez is doing this kind of worries me in that Fox might say to do it as cheaply as possible as opposed to making an exciting, original film.

Re: Predators getting a sequel

Rodriguez needs to actually direct it and not leave it in the hands of a guy named Nimrod. I couldn't stop laughing when I saw his name pop up when the credits rolled although I already knew of it. I bet the average moviegoer was thing "WTF?" when they saw that name pop up.

Well to be fair...the average moviegoer was too busy breathing through their mouth and texting to actually notice.

Maybe he could do it and let Nimrod produce.

Re: Predators getting a sequel

...maybe co-produce but...RR can produce/write/edit/score/direct it himself...hell...if he pumped up..he could be in it too! Hell he probably caters his films himself at times. The man loves to have control of his projects so whatever gets him that I'm all for it. He knows wtf to do.

Re: Predators getting a sequel

I didn't see any mention of a theatrical release. Maybe RR will produce a Direct-to-DVD sequel like he did with From Dusk Till Dawn

Predators had issues, but I'm def game for a sequel. I thknk Rodriguez knows what he needs to do in order to ramp up the action at this point.

Good point. And if they shoot it mostly around here in Central, TX again they can save even more money. Those scenes in Predators already looked direct to dvd and were it's biggest fault to my eyes. But maybe that's just because I live in the area.

Would consider seeing only if they fix the fact that they made the Predators so goddamn stupid in this last one.
