Best BILLY BOB THORNTON film since 2000?
I became a Billy Bob Thornton fan after seeing 1996's Sling Blade, and 1998's A Simple Plan. I'm not sure what I think of Thornton's work/material since then, as I wasn't bowled over by the films themselves, while I always think his acting is good.
I've seen Bad Santa and Monster's Ball, and only thought the films so-so.

I thought he was amazing in The Man Who Wasn't There, a very quiet and deep performance.
I also really liked him in Friday Night Lights, he plays a hell of a coach.

I was going to say Primary Colors, but that was 1998. Really hasnt been in anything memorable since 2000.
I'd really like to see him write something again. I loved Sling Blade and the Gift.

Hmmm...
'The Alamo', 'Bad Santa', and 'Bad News Bears' come to mind.
'Levity' is a film I liked, though apparently I'm in the minority there.

I was trying to think of the answer to this: TOMBSTONE? No, that's 1993. ONE FALSE MOVE? No, that's even older. But then Dr. Mabuse reminded me of THE ALAMO (2004), in which Billy Bob played a great Davy Crockett. So, yeah, that's the one. I have problems with Jason Patric's Jim Bowie (a much more complicated character than any portrayal's been able to do justice to), but there is one great scene in the movie where Crockett and Bowie talk about what it's like to be a living legend--and both men were indeed legends in their own time--and confronted with this life-or-death situation.

Best for me since 2000 is probably The Man Who Wasn't There.

I hope Billy Bob doesn't see this thread. He's a musician, ya know? I think he'd be insulted that we're discussing his acting roles.

The Man Who Wasn't There, with Bad Santa in a close 2nd place. Maybe The Ice Harvest as a distant third, but I never saw Friday Night Lights.

You don't see him in a lot of movies anymore.
Will he have to settle for just playing supporting roles or did he tick off some Hollywood executives or he had a good run and his luck ran out?

This is the last good performance I've seen of him:

Was his role in Bad News Bears just basically the same role he did in Bad Santa, except during the summer season? LOL
