This I can't argue.

The revenge though? I give it to Oldboy...that's a better revenge...in terms of well...fucking up the opposing party pretty bad.

This movie really ends on an interesting note and leaves the notion of whether or not the "good guys" won up for debate.

I thought the same thing. There really wasn't a good person in all this. I would side w/ Banderas' character but then...a line is crossed and then your baddie is a victim as well...and then it's just fucked up in a damn good Almodovar way. Can't wait for his next flick.

Spoiler:
I found it interesting because the rape scene isn't crystal clear. Yes, she was on drugs but he didn't give them to her. While he did cover her mouth when she was screaming, he stopped having sex with her. I would still argue it was rape based on her being on so many drugs she didn't know what was going on.

Also, the scene in the beginning with the Tiger was so out there but in the context of the movie, it was the perfect "eye for an eye" revenge.

Then there's the rollercoaster of emotions we as the audience go through: girl is held captive, girl gets raped, then see daughter get raped, root for Banderas to attack, capture, and experiment on rapist, later find out rapist was actually girl in the beginning getting raped... wtf? what am I supposed to feel now? It's one of those rare movies that challenges our preconceptions about characters, situations and movies in general. That's why it was a great movie.

The way I see it, a better argument can be made that the bad guy won.

Spoiler:
While it is left ambiguous as to how much rape of the daughter occurred, there was still intention to do such, and I think we can infer she did have intercourse as others did speak of it as such. When it all boils down, the individual who raped Banderas' daughter has also murdered his mother and him too boot by the end of the movie. While I'm certain they learned their lesson (to the most extreme ), if you look at it through black and white it seems a bit more clear.
