Blockbuster rents the UNRATED version of Caligula as well as many titles that could easily be considered softcore pornography.

Well, if someone's going to get you hooked, she's the one I'd want to have around when I/we was feeding my jones.

Re: What the hell happened to Val Kilmer?!?
There's your answer to "what the hell happened to Val Kilmer." He's an actor, not a movie star, and one who apparently is content to work outside Los Angeles--to the benefit of his home state. In a perfect world, there'd be a lot more Val Kilmers.

That being said I did enjoy him in Heat and much earlier in some of his 80s movies. It's interesting to note how successful Robert Downey Jr has become after his rejuvination in Kiss Kiss Bang Band, and how that success has not translated to Val Kilmer, who I thought put in a very impressive turn.

In any event, I've never met the guy so he continues to exist purely as an entertainer to me. Knowing how cash-strapped New Mexico is, I tip my hat to the guy for bringing in the kind of business that Ropes Pierre cited. Oh, and I liked him as Batman. There, I said it!

Re: What the hell happened to Val Kilmer?!?
Val Kilmer remains one of my favorite actors of all time. There I said it. He's one of the few actors that can convincingly pull of different genres and themes. If you don't like and/or appreciate Spartan, Real Genius, Tombstone, Willow, Batman Forever etc... there's something wrong with you. :P
One of my goals is to collect as many Val Kilmer movies as possible. These DTV movies is going to make that a bit harder now. |

Re: What the hell happened to Val Kilmer?!?
I actually thought the Kilmer's turn as Batman was better than Clooney's. Clooney might have been fun but I liked Kilmer's brooding better. Then again, I haven't watched the movie in a few years now. I do think a Kilmer marathon would be pretty cool though.

'The Salton Sea' is another good VK movie with a great cast. It's on the level of Wonderland and Spartan. Solid films.

This and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang are enough for proof of a good decade in my eyes.

Re: What the hell happened to Val Kilmer?!?
Loved Spartan, really like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. I thought he was a better Batman than Clooney, and I'd like to see him in more stuff.
As long as he still grabs the occasional big role (Deja Vu, MacGruber), I'm not concerned that his career's going down the tubes. You don't see Cuba Gooding Jr. alternating between DTV and theatrical.

Re: What the hell happened to Val Kilmer?!?
And it was great to see him in a recent movie that wasn't DTV/shit.
The fact that he wasn't in the film much doesn't take away from it being enjoyable to see him doing his thing on screen.

That and his character seemed pretty ruthless

Re: What the hell happened to Val Kilmer?!?
He was a fantastic Doc Holliday in TOMBSTONE. I thought he was pretty damned good in BATMAN FOREVER, too. Look at the characters he's played, in addition to Doc and Batman: Billy the Kid, Elvis (TRUE ROMANCE), Jim Morrison (THE DOORS), Simon Templar, Willem de Kooning (POLLOCK), the voice of Moses (PRINCE OF EGYPT), and in something upcoming listed on IMDB, Mark Twain. I think he'd be great as Twain. I was surprised to see that Kilmer turned 50 on Dec. 31.

Re: What the hell happened to Val Kilmer?!?
Loved him in Tombstone:
Johnny Ringo: My fight's not with you, Holliday. Doc Holliday: I beg to differ, sir. We started a game we never got to finish. "Play for Blood," remember? Johnny Ringo: Oh that. I was just foolin' about. Doc Holliday: I wasn't. |

Re: What the hell happened to Val Kilmer?!?
I'm sure most actors would kill for Kilmer's filmography and even his current career. Top Secret, Real Genius, Tombstone, The Saint, Heat, Spartan, and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang would all probably make my top 100 favorites. He certainly gets enough work these days, and it's great what he's doing for New Mexico.
And, I'm going to say it: next to Kevin Conroy's voice-acting from the animated series, he is the best modern Batman. *runs* |

All of my filth is arranged in alphabetical order. This, for instance, is under 'H' for "toy."

Re: What the hell happened to Val Kilmer?!?
"Best Batman" is highly debatable, of course. I would be much quicker to agree that his Bruce Wayne was the most interesting. Kilmer is the only one who played it as though Bruce is a largely functional human being. Typically, Bruce Wayne is a chance to show the lead actor out of the costume (appeasing him and his agents, who want a lot of uncovered face time on screen), and he's written as Batman's brooding, socially awkward public persona. Kilmer gives us a sense that he really is the same person in and out of costume, and he really infused the role with some depth...which really had to have been hard, given the movie in which he did this!
