DeNiro set for another Midnight Run

Midnight Run is my favorite comedy of all time. HIGHLY underrated, and VERY VERY funny with a great cast.
I got a chance to see a special screening of this movie back in late 2008 with special host Charles Grodin during a Q&A after the film. Sadly, there is zero chance of him during a return, as he has become quite the hermit now.

"You two couldn't deliver a bottle of milk!!!"
One of the best comedies in the last few decades. Absolutely love this flick.

As much as I love the first film, I'm no feeling a sequel.
Anybody the remember the spin-off TV films of the mid-90s? Christopher McDonald played Jack Walsh.
Another Midnight Run
Midnight Runaround
Midnight Run For Your Life

Don't really remember too much of it, only that you could see it on the Disney Channel after 11 or so back in the late 80's/early 90's. How an R rated movie was on the Disney Channel I'll never understand.
As for Gronin, it would suck if his last films were the Ex, A Summertime Story, and Clifford.

I don't think they could match the same chemistry between DeNiro and Grodin in a sequel. This is one of those movies that works fine as a standalone; it ended nicely with no loose plot strings, where a sequel would have to explain why

What was good about the original was not just DeNiro & Grodin but also the great supporting cast :
Yaphet Kotto
Denis Farina
John Ashton
Joe Pantoliano

Yaphet Kotto supposedly reprised his role as Agent Alonzo Mosely in the Larry the Cable Guy movie, Witless Protection.. However, rights issues forced the producers to redub the character's name for the DVD release.
I really liked MR, one of the few times I've found Grodin to be watchable.

One of the best comedies ever!!!!
Jonathan Mardukas: Did she hurt you, Jack?
Jack Walsh: Yeah, she did.
Jonathan Mardukas: I'm sorry.
Jack Walsh: What're you sorry about?
Jonathan Mardukas: I'm sorry you're hurt.
Jack Walsh: I'm not hurt.
Jonathan Mardukas: You just said you were hurt.
Jack Walsh: I'm not hurt.
Jonathan Mardukas: I just asked you if you were hurt and you said "Yeah, I'm hurt."
Jack Walsh: That's because you made me say that.
Jonathan Mardukas: Jack, you're a grown man. You're in control of your own words.
Jack Walsh: You're goddamn right I am. Now here come two words for you: Shut the fuck up.

Jimmy Serrano: Don't say a word to me, Sidney, don't say a fucking word to me. I'll get up and I'll bury this telephone in your head.
And to think, we had to wait until Get Shorty to see what Dennis Farina meant by "bury this telephone in your head"

Re: DeNiro set for another Midnight Run
This is one of my favorite movies, as they don't make comedies like this anymore: Good acting, good story, funny as hell, and you actually care about the characters! Do directors understand this concept anymore???? In saying that, please don't do a sequel!!!!
My favorite line:
Deniro's ex-wife's kid talking to Grodin:
Kid: You don't look like a criminal?
Grodin: I'm a white collar criminal!

Absolutely. I would go so far as to say that DeNiro was the least important member of the cast. His part was well-written and he did a good job performing it, but he could have been much more easily replaced than Grodin or any of the folks you listed above.

Charles Grodin and Martin Brest may be asked to return;
Grodin doesn't sound all that guaranteed when he seems to be much more passionate about his work as a volunteer advocate for poor, first-time offenders hit with impossible prison sentences because of mandatory sentencing laws.
Apparently Tribeca Productions (De Niro's outfit) is also intent on bringing back Martin Brest (the original director who hasn't directed anything since the disaster Gigli) in addition to Charles Grodin.

“I've been led to believe by someone I won't name that they will ask me [to do Midnight Run 2] and I will consider it. I always assumed they'd go with a young actor. What I remember is there were 18 locations, including New Zealand, and for me, it isn't so much the acting as it is the travel and the waiting. I started in movies in 1963 and the first big one was Rosemary's Baby in 1967. While you don't notice it right away, it finally dawns on you that 80% of the time, you're doing nothing. Where I am right now, trying to get people out of prison and get laws changed, it is a funny twist that Bob De Niro's once again trying to put an innocent man in prison, while I am trying to get them out."

Brett Ratner to do Midnight Run 2? Besides Rush Hour 1 & 2, Ratner really hasn't done that good of movies.
