Best and Worst films from longterm Director/Actor collaborations

What do you think are the best and the worst movies from established director/actor team-ups? For example, Kurosawa/Mifune, Scorsese/DeNiro, Scorsese/DiCaprio, Bergman/von Sydow, Anderson/Wilson etc.

Hate to say it, but Escape from LA is pretty damn bad for a Carpenter/Russell pairing.

Edit: Forgot about best... Carpenter/Russell: The Thing

Re: Best and Worst films from longterm Director/Actor collaborations

I can't really use the word "worst" for some of these guys so I'll use the term "least".

Scorsese/DeNiro

Best: Raging Bull
Least: Goodfellas

Scorsese/DiCaprio

Best: The Departed
Least: Gangs of New York

Kurosawa/Mifune

Best: Seven Samurai
Least: The Lower Depths

Haven't seen enough Bergman to judge.

New York, New York is worst for Scorsese/DeNiro IMHO.

Re: Best and Worst films from longterm Director/Actor collaborations

Calling Goodfellas worst anything is laughable. I wouldn't say a single Deniro/Marty collaboraion has been bad, but if pressed would go with New York, New York as well.

The King of Comedy is a great film

Scorsese has said it has some of his favorite work with DeNiro

Re: Best and Worst films from longterm Director/Actor collaborations

John Ford/John Wayne

Best: THE SEARCHERS (1956)

Worst: A tough one, since they're mostly great, but I'd have to go with THE LONG VOYAGE HOME (1940), based on a Eugene O'Neill play, only because it's long and slow and talky and doesn't use Wayne's considerable strengths as an actor/star. I saw it once and I've never bothered to revisit it.

Scorsese/De Niro
Best: GOODFELLAS
Worst: I'd have to go with NEW YORK, NEW YORK as well.

Scorsese/Di Caprio
Worst: a toss-up between GANGS OF NEW YORK, THE AVIATOR and THE DEPARTED
Best: the trailer for SHUTTER ISLAND, but only because it looks like Ben Kingsley really puts little Di Caprio through his paces, possibly as punishment for ruining the three aforementioned films.

Just watched it again today and it is certainly one of the best from these guys. Sandra Bernhard is not great, but De Niro is amazing in this. The scenes where he is imagining himself talking to Jerry with his mother shouting down to him always cracks me up.
