I agree.

There's room for all sorts of Vampires and if it means we get more decent Vamp Flicks then that's cool with me.

I'll admit that my irritation with "Club Bunny" Vampires dancing to Euro Techno and sitting around in bars drinkin' blood and trying to look "cool" was at an all time high during the 90's. But looking back I just realized that Vampires are evolving to fit in with our modern times.

No one is "wrong" if we're talking different interpretations.

I happen to like that Whedonverse vampire mythology as well - the facial transformation, the burning in sunlight, the dusting - all of those make the vampire appear more evil, more monstrous, despite wearing a 'human' face for most of the time.

The "Blade" super-strong sunblock that Stephen Dorff wore was just stupid, but it also fit the burning in sunlight idea. The short-lived "Kindred: The Embraced" had their vampires able to walk in sunlight only after feeding, and when they were mortally wounded they would burn up as well.

Yeah, there's no one way to do it.

It's just like how we have Werewolves that are bi-pedal Monsters** (The Howling, Underworld, Harry Potter), we have Werewolves that are more like regular wolves (WOLF), and we have Werewolves that are are shaped like regular wolves and walk/run on all fours but are clearly larger and more monstrous than their regular wolf counterparts(American WW in London, New Moon)

Re: Are movies like Twilight hurting the Vampire image?

If you say "Well zombies run, why doesn't the new romero zombie flick have running zombies? Don't they know it was established in the dawn remake that they run!" then yes, you will be wrong for assuming that zombies run. Much the same way this gent suggested that it has always been that vampires could never come out during the day.

Moon Light also had walking vampires. I bet you must have thought that the mystical ring in Buffy allowing Spike and Angel to walk during the day was stupid. Or is that not as silly as sunblock? I guess if they made it mystical sunblock than it would have been all good.

Vampires have been a good source of portraying fears of foreigners taking their women and spreading diseases.

I just realized how much these movies are pissing off Whedon fans. With that in mind, Twilight -- I salute you!

They should try and get Whedon to direct the next one. It would be fun to find out what every single Whedon fanboys' head exploding at once would sound like.

It wouldn't matter if it were Blade, Buffy, Moonlight, Twilight, whatever - mystical sunblock just seems stupid no matter who wears it / came up with it. Having a magic ring / amulet / whatever is just the same-old, same-old.

By the way, not once have I said that I think other interpretations are stupid, just the sunblock itself was. Other interpretations are just that. No one is wrong or right. It's like Batman. From the 60s show to The Dark Knight, Batman can be interpreted a dozen different ways, some more enjoyable than others which is all subjective, but they are all valid.

Everybody knows vampires don't have a reflection, so how the hell can they have an image?

Incredibly gay vampires would be cool. A tall, suave, and sophisticated man meets the heroine's boyfriend at a party. The boyfriend is handsome, he's great in bed, and he's the captain of the football team. She loves him dearly. But after the night of that party, he changed completely.

Some people would think it's properly satanic, some people would find it disturbing, and some people would find it hawt. Perfect vampire material.

Re: Are movies like Twilight hurting the Vampire image?

I never cared for vampire movies because of Whedon's interpretation. Then True Blood came along and I enjoyed vampire movies/shows once again.

Re: Are movies like Twilight hurting the Vampire image?

Anyone complaining about how wimpy modern vampires are should go back and read some 19th Century vamp stories -- Dr. Polidori's The Vampyre, LeFanu's Carmilla, Gautier's Clarimonde, or Preskett's Varney the Vampire. The guys are always whiny Byronic anti-heroes, and the girls super-sexy seductresses. Not a bad-ass villain among them.

cubs.
Hollywood is doing all kinds of vampire movies from changing how they appeared from the start to what we have now.
So what is this that they can't?
The only thing that is big they took out. And that was the Christian part.
That should be plenty to have Hollywood happy.
And they can't have Muslims as the vampire killers and heros because their stance on gays. Try again.

Trying to read that post makes me feel like I've been bitten by a vampire. Drained, confused, and a little sexually aroused.

Since seeing "Dracula 2000", I've wondered if vampires could or could not be caught on a video camera. The mirror thing has (to the best of my knowledge) remained constant, but I've never seen the camera thing before.

I do have to admit one thing about "Dracula 2000", tricking Dracula into a trap using the mirror thing against him was pretty crafty.
