Saturday Afternoon Guy Movies

I just love a lazy Saturday afternoon where you have nothing to do but relax in the recliner and watch a good guy flick. There are just certain movies that fit the mood and time of the day for me. Typically movies that check your brain at the door such as:

Last Man Standing - Bruce Willis rides into a dusty town and all hell breaks loose. Great action, love the prohibition era and Christopher Walker is a lot of fun.

Shawshank Redemption - just one of those movies that sucks you in, and you can't stop watching

Predator - still holds up today as a classic action piece with great special effects

Wild Hogs - bikers and comedy, good mix

Any Clint Eastwood western - Good, Bad and the Ugly just seems more enjoyable in the afternoon to me for some reason.

I think the first Die Hard movie is great to watch on Saturday afternoon.

Re: Saturday Afternoon Guy Movies

I like to call these my hangover movies. I'm on the couch, too lazy to get up and put in a DVD so I end up watching movies like The Replacements on TBS. Seriously, the show that movie at least once a month on Saturday afternoons.

Re: Saturday Afternoon Guy Movies

This is why Channel 5 in New York used to run kung fu movies on Saturday afternoons. And they ran the classics, too, although English dubbed, cut, edited for violence, and often under altered titles, e.g. DEATH CHAMBER (SHAOLIN TEMPLE, 1976) and MASTER KILLER (THE 36TH CHAMBER OF SHAOLIN, 1978). Now these films have finally started to come out in R1 editions, uncut, restored, and in their original language (Mandarin) with subtitles. So you have no excuse not to see them in their new, improved editions.

In your opinion that is... I found Wild Hogs to be very funny much better than Galaxy Quest IMHO that is.

Stargate never grew on me either even though I love Kurt Russell.

The Abyss is always a good one for me.

The Blues Brothers - Even though I can quote the whole thing by now, if it's on, I'm watching at least a good long chunk of it.

Re: Saturday Afternoon Guy Movies

I remember one Sat. feeling lazy and The Commitments came on. Good movie! As I was watching it I realized I was bobbing my head and moving my toes to the music.

After the movie I was ready to go do some drinking and see some live bands.

I think an honorary placement on this list should be the Expendables. I mean..c'mon...it's all the action heroes you can have.

I usually go with "The Hunt for Red October" on my lazy Saturday (or rainy day - seems to fit both for me!)

Re: Saturday Afternoon Guy Movies

i don't usually watch movies on a Saturday afternoon, but when i saw this thread, two in particular came to mind. TBS or AMC plays the 1st alot and FMC plays the 2nd at least once a week (usually at night).

hell, these two i can pretty much watch anytime, but a Sat. afternoon they beg for...

great buffers 'til a good college game on Sat. night or Sunday football of course.
