Burke and Hare--John Landis, Simon Pegg, and David Tennant

Landis, Pegg, and Tennant this has potential.

After spending several years shooting episodic television and documentaries and turning down offers to make movies that he would not pay to see, Landis is “thrilled to be working in the UK again on a quality project”. He promises that the tale of the early 19th-century serial murders will be shot “extremely faithfully but as a romantic comedy in the great Ealing black-comedy tradition.”

BD's David Harley writes in that David Tennant, star of "Dr Who", has been cast alongside Simon Pegg in Burke and Hare, as was announced by director John Landis this weekend at the Spooky Empire convention in Orlando, FL. Based on a true story, Burke And Hare is about two 19th century graverobbers who find a lucrative business providing cadavers for an Edinburgh medical school. The screenplay was penned by Piers Ashworth and Nick Moorcroft.

No confirmation but a Bill Nighy fan site reports that Nighy, John Cleese and Minnie Driver will also star.

I really dug The Doctor and the Devils. Not convinced another film needs to be made of this story, but I do like the prinicipals involved.

More important, does this mean that John Landis is the only person on the planet who would pay to see The Stupids?

Don't kill children and you wouldn't have that problem.

Re: Burke and Hare--John Landis, Simon Pegg, and David Tennant

Some huge news out of this morning's AFM in Santa Monica as Bloody Disgusting has learned that the incredible Dan Aykroyd (Ghostbusters) will be joining Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead), David Tennant ("Doctor Who") and Bill Nighy (Underworld films) in the John Landis dircted black comedy Burke and Hare. Based on a true story, Burke And Hare is about two 19th century graverobbers who find a lucrative business providing cadavers for an Edinburgh medical school.

The casting of Dan Aykroyd hasn't constituted "huge news" in 20 years.

(still cool, though)

I think it qualifies if only because Aykroyd and Landis worked together on seven movies.
