Hereafter (Eastwood, 2010): Matt Damon in supernatural thriller

From The Hollywood Reporter:
Having just worked together on "Invictus," which will be released later this year, Clint Eastwood and Matt Damon are reteaming for "Hereafter."

Eastwood will direct the original supernatural thriller by Peter Morgan, with Damon stepping in to the lead role; filming is set to begin this fall.

DreamWorks originally acquired the spec thriller from Morgan, an Oscar nominee for "The Queen" and "Frost/Nixon," last year, and it quickly piqued Eastwood's interest.

Deciding to move forward with the project, Eastwood is moving it to his home base at Warners with the blessing of DreamWorks founder Steven Spielberg, who produced Eastwood's films "Flags of Our Fathers" and "Letters From Iwo Jima."

The project will be produced by Eastwood, his producing partner Robert Lorenz and Kathleen Kennedy. Spielberg, Frank Marshall, Morgan and Tim Moore will serve as exec producers.

Can't say I'm too interested in Invictus, but a supernatural thriller by Eastwood starring Matt Damon has me excited, I don't even need to know what it's about.

Nice to see Eastwood directing movies of different genres other than the tightly wound dramas that he tends to prefer.

Invictus is a biopic of Nelson Mandela starring Morgan Freeman. I smell an Oscar or five.

Sounds promising but this being an Eastwood film it will almost certainly be more character based than 'supernatural thriller.' Just as his Iwo Jima movies & Gran Torino placed more emphasis on character than action I'm betting Hereafter will be in the same vein.

Described as being comparable to The Sixth Sense, the film's storyline is being kept secret. The project was penned by Peter Morgan, writer of Frost/Nixon and The Queen and is being co-produced by Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall. Clint Eastwood will direct and Matt Damon will star.
A supernatural thriller centered on three people -- a blue-collar American, a French journalist and a London school boy -- who are touched by death in different ways.
Sources: IGN and IMDB
Comparisons to the grossly overrated The Sixth Sense would normally kill my interest. However, Clint Eastwood is directing so I'll give it a shot.

Just a matter of time until we get the 3D announcement too.

Re: Hereafter (directed by Clint Eastwood)

I actually like The Sixth Sense, so the comparison between the two is just fine with me.

Throw Eastwood and Spielberg into the mis and I'm all good.

You dumb motherfucker...

Also...I hate the marketing line of comparing this to The Sixth Sense...before I read that and after..I still decide that Clint Eastwood will have my money for his film.

Damn. First I'm excited about "the next Ben Affleck film", and now I'm stoked for "a supernatural thriller directed by Clint Eastwood".

Not complaining or anything.

Damnit, Eastwood. Can't you stop making me excited for you next movie? Admittingly...this seems to be the most different of his recent crop of films. Cuz...well...the others are pretty real in a way. The subject matter for this one is so off what Eastwood usually does....

I didn't care for that trailer. Yes, individual snippets have me intruiged but it has little overall flow. But then most modern trailers are like that.

Nonetheless, I'm still up for this.

also not psyched about the trailer, but i'll still check it out.

And that Howard child is ugly. I aboslutely can't stand the way she looks and hate every role she's in.

Thanks for that. It looks really emotional & all the usual Eastwood trademarks - especially that tenderness of Clint's that sits so well with his clear-eyed handling of disturbing material - look present & correct. That's some terrifying recreation of the 2004 tsunami too. The shot of the wave coming in looks like it was taken direct from the amateur footage made by tourists who were unfortunate enough to be there when it hit. As for the London tube bombing scenes, man, that's going to be brutal. Nontheless, am really looking forward to this. Can you believe Hereafter marks the 80 yr old Eastwood's sixth movie in less than four years? The guy seems like a man possessed.

I've never cared much for Matt Damon, but I'll be seeing this. I love movies in this genre - up there with The Sixth Sense and others like it.
