Say what you will about X-Man: Last Stand, it's still the highest grossing X-Men film to date.

I kind of picture a bunch of studio heads sitting around, stewing at each and every horrible decision this project has taken, then when it came down that Johnny Storm was going to be black, it was the straw that broke the camels back, and one of them threw the script across the table, sending it flying everywhere, exclaiming "WHAT THE FUCK ARE WE DOING HERE?" At least that's how I hope it went.

The dumb thing is that the reason the third X-Men film is the highest grossing is because it left such a bad taste in everyone's mouth that people have been wary of all the following films, even when they're good. X-Men Origins: Wolverine did not help in that regard either.

That's because nothing which followed it WAS any good . In all seriousness, while you're partially right, I also think that the fact that it was the end of the main franchise died has something to do with it too. Everything which has followed it has been a prequel or one-off side story, and the main story of the trilogy, such as it was, was finished by X3. I do share in the worry that because of the receipts, they might associate Ratner with those numbers and bring him back again, but I think that getting Singer back was a step in the right direction. Whether he can undo a decade worth of damage done to the franchise remains to be seen, but since he's made the best films in the series previously, IMO, that means he's a step in the right direction.
Anyway, what kind of success did the previous FF films have? I can obviously see why they wouldn't want to give it back to Marvel, but in terms of franchise potential, it doesn't seem like it has anywhere near the clout of Spidey or the X-Men.

I guess that little rumor wasn't true as Fox just announced a new Wolverine movie and Fantastic Four 2.

Fox has zeroed in on newcomer Toby Kebbell to play the “Fantastic Four” team’s arch nemesis Victor von Doom, aka Doctor Doom.
The role was chased by several rising stars, including Jack Huston and Domhnall Gleeson, before Fox targeted the ”Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” thesp.
If a deal makes, Kebbell would join Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell in the reboot that plans to shoot this spring. Fox had no comment.
Based on the Marvel comic “The Ultimate Fantastic Four,” the contemporary update will focus on the characters as young men and women. Josh Trank will helm the pic with Simon Kinberg, Matthew Vaughn and Gregory Goodman serving as producers.
“The Fantastic Four” is slated to bow June 19, 2015. A second installment is due in summer 2017.
Kebbell, whose long list of strong supporting roles include “War Horse,” “The East” and Legendary’s upcoming adaptation of “Warcraft,” is repped by CAA and Independent Talent Group.

I like Toby Kebbel. Dunno if I like him for Dr. Doom, however.

If the internet isn't imploding, they're not doing it right. Try again, Fox.

Fortunately, it's going to be far removed enough from what the FF has always been that when we get the inevitable reboot (hopefully at Marvel) it will be a breath of fresh air and will seem like a completely different franchise.

I wonder if FOX is casting just to fuck with Marvel? I guess if they never do anything with Lo the Leader/Samuel Sterns, it won't matter.

... Ah. I do know him. Just never by his name. Still love FF #1. Such a cool environment they dropped the F4 in that era. Fox is going to fuck this up.
The F4 would rock with Marvel. Adventure. That's what the F4 need. Fox has failed well with that.

That's what I want. A gritty, darker, tweenie, more realistic take on the "Fantastic Four".
I liked "Chronicle" well enough, don't get me wrong, but FF needs to be BIG! COSMIC! SLIGHTLY GOOFY BUT NOT CAMPY! etc.
If only Brad Bird could have written and directed the film, but set it in an alt-1960s... #ohwait

They just cast Sue and Johnny's father. The internet will explode in 3... 2... 1...

Yes, Sue and Johnny Storm are sister and brother in the upcoming The Fantastic Four, a cinematic reboot of the franchise premiering in June 2015. And now we know their father.
Reg E. Cathey has been cast as the elder Dr. Storm, and is specifically listed as both a doctor and scientist in the notice from THR. The actor has recently appeared on House of Cards and Banshee and starred on The Wire.
