NEW 'Battlestar Galactica' remake to be helmed by Bryan Singer

Variety is reporting that Singer will be helming a theatrical remake of the 1970s series...

Are you fraking kidding me?

While the show new show was quality, I can't stand that idiotic term.

Re: NEW 'Battlestar Galactica' remake to be helmed by Bryan Singer

What is the point at this point? The TV show was epic and felt finished. A movie that reinvents the idea again just seems stupid and childish this close to the end of the show, which was only about 7 months ago, like Bryan Singer is pissed that he wasn't able to participate when he had the chance.

I don't know about this. I know Glen Larson has been wanting to do his own take on the 70's TV show as a feature film, but with the new TV series still being relatively fresh on everyone's minds, I don't know if this will work.

Larson should have done this 10 years ago before Universal gave Ron Moore the TV show.

I think Singer, and maybe Larson, were previously involved with BG, but it all fell through after 9/11. It was something about how the Cylons attacked without warning or something that made producers hesitant. Can't remember if it was a feature film, or a series pilot.

This needs to sink back into development hell, and soon.

Backdoor pilot. Supposedly it was going to cost $14 million bucks. It was the cost and the 9/11 situation that scared off the network.

Not interested. The series that just ended was awesome and true sci-fi at its best. This is a bad idea.

The idea of more Battlestar has a certain appeal. The idea of another 'reimagining' does not.

This would be such an enormous flop, I can't believe Universal would actually bankroll this shit.

Just stick to DTV movies of the reimagined BSG. It has built in commercial appeal and won't make you lose millions.

Re: NEW 'Battlestar Galactica' remake to be helmed by Bryan Singer

I thought (and was pissed off) about this some more. If Bryan Singer is dying to remake some 70's sci fi, why not something else? Buck Rogers hasn't been touched in 30 years and is long over due for a modernization. Or how about Flash Gordon? I don't think anybody feels the recent Sci-Fi Channel series was all that definitive. Or maybe Space 1999? Or there are a good number of obscure British science fiction shows...Blake's 7 comes to mind right away, among others.

My point being is this isn't just unnecessary, there's plenty of obscure 70's science fiction waiting to be redone and redone right that he doesn't even need this.

Isn't there supposed to be a Blakes 7 remake in the works?

Anyway, this news has my attention. Maybe they'll get it right this time.

Enjoyed the classic show, hated the new. Fire away gentlemen.

The opinions of the minority shouldn't affect the majority. I would say that, based on fan feedback, the new Battlestar series was a huge success and doesn't need tampering with any more.

And UFO would be a great one to remake!

Sheesh. Already a remake? The series was great (well, at least the first 2.5-3 seasons were) and had a satisfactory conclusion. Plus they are doing a prequel.

If a studio is dying to go the movie route from previous tv sci-fi, how about going back to the Babylon 5 universe? There's plenty there to revisit.

Here's an even better idea. Why not make a new sci-fi movie instead of remaking something else? Sounds good to me!

I don't know about it being a HUGE success. What were the average viewing numbers? It was definately a critical success though, I'll give'em that.

I agree though. Leave the new tv series alone. I'm only interested in the classic version.

I could go for a UFO remake. As long as they didn't go the SyFy route and cut out all the 'space stuff'. Otherwise its just another 'aliens indistinguishable from humans try to conquer the Earth each week' show.
