Little Children... any fans?
So, I just watched Little Children for the first time the other day. Incredibly disturbing, but absolutely fantastic. I thought it played like a much darker version of American Beauty. In fact, I may even prefer this film over that one. Kate Winslet was smoking hot and it was cool to see Patrick Wilson and Jackie Earl Haley in the same film after having seen Watchmen. Haley played such a twisted, sick character. Lots of good, solid supporting players here. I even enjoyed the narration, though it did seem a little unnecessary at times. I really want to pick up a copy but I'm bummed to see it's not on Blu-ray. I'll probably still grab one, though.
I didn't see a thread for this, but surely there are plenty of other fans on here? |

Re: Little Children... any fans?
Thought it was a very good movie with a great performance from Haley. What the heck was he doing between Bad News Bears and this?
I liked that it didn't take the easy way out with any of the situations. Very powerful

Re: Little Children... any fans?
Todd Field has a short directing resume, but this and "In the Bedroom" are both outstanding.

I also like Todd Field. I thought Little Children was a bit better than In The Bedroom.

Re: Little Children... any fans?
Todd Field is one of my favorite American directors after two films. In the Bedroom and Little Children are my favorite films of the year they came out.

Re: Little Children... any fans?
I thought it was terrific, especially Winslet. The narration did seem out of place at certain points though.

Re: Little Children... any fans?
I LOVED Little Children and I watch it every time it's on cable.
I guess I'm one of the few today who enjoy Narration in films and TV shows.

Re: Little Children... any fans?
I thought it was good. I think maybe I expected more out of it.
Noah Emmerich's character came off like a cliche nearly the same way of Chris Cooper in American Beauty. But that was my only real problem with it. It reminded me of Revolutionary Road in a way. In the sense, that there are these 2 characters that want to run away and be happy with one another. However, logic gets the better of them and in the end it was really just a dream. |

Really liked it, wouldn't put it over In The Bedroom. Can't wait to see what he can do with Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian, which will be Field's next film.

It was worth watching only once. I thought it was "okay".

Re: Little Children... any fans?
Found this at Ross the other day. Amazing how DVDs are sold everywhere nowadays.
Looking forward to watching it after the Sci-Fi Challenge is over.

Re: Little Children... any fans?
I thought this was an amazing movie. I had remembered seeing a trailer for it way before it came out, and it was just the sound of a train running, little clips of the movie, and then the sound of a train crashing.
When I finally watched the movie, it never let up. As someone else said, it never let up. I thought the narration was appropriate, because it was more like an observer. It made the movie feel like a book that was brought to life; it made it feel richer. Winslet was great, Patrick Wilson was well-cast, Jennifer Connely was a bit wasted but her role was important, Noah Emmerich was also very good, and Jackie Earle Haley became one of my favorite actors overnight with his performance. He was so disturbed, impulsive, and at once sympathetic and unsympathetic. His scenes towards the end of the movie are unforgettable. The themes in this movie are given so much care and attention, and never feel forced. I completely agree, and I said it when I first saw it, this is the movie that American Beauty wanted to be. Don't get me wrong, that movie was good, but this was an instant classic. |
