Re: Daybreakers - Vampire movie from "Undead" directors

Just saw this and came away really disappointed. I guess I expected too much. I found a couple of the action scenes distracting as it took away from the flow of the film. And yeah this film was loud.

Spoiler:
Anybody find the plotline with Sam Neill and his daughter predictable? I really wished they delved into the issue of human vs vampire. Not everyone in the film wanted to be human. What if someone didn't want to accept the cure and become human? That would have made for a far better film. I found the ending confusing too.

Re: Daybreakers - Vampire movie from "Undead" directors

Just caught this movie this afternoon. I enjoyed it enough but I do agree that the makers missed on an opportunity to do more with the subsiders. I kind of felt that aspect of the story was more interesting than the main stuff. I also agree that
Spoiler:
the cure was a complete cop out.

Overall, I enjoyed it. Especially the female lead with her being a wee bit nipply.

^ Which ones? It's one of the best to come out since Blade II, if that means anything to you.

I think I was asking someone who deleted their post, since my question makes no sense in regard to your response. Disregard.

, and it's refreshing to have vampires be monsters again instead of sparkly emo waifs.
They weren't really monsters, they almost acted human, except they drank blood, and hated the sun.

Just watched this last night:
Spoiler:

1. I thought it started off really strong with setting-up the vampire world.

2. At some point the dialogue became really clunky and took me out of the film. That and Dafoe seemed to be acting in a different flick with his pseudo-Ash Williams awesomeness.

3. The last third of the film became nothing but predictable.

I guess my expectations were too high. Having really like "Undead" and knowing nothing about the flick except for seeing a poster:

Looked pretty high concept/unconventional for a vampire-flick.

Re: Daybreakers - Vampire movie from "Undead" directors

I saw this recently as well.

Spoiler:
Frankly, from the trailers, I was expecting a lot more encounters with the sub-siders. The one we got in the home invasion scene was pretty well done, but aside from that all we got were teases. The concept was set up well at the start, but then the film just plodded along. However, I did especially like the scene where the starved vampires would feed off of the cured ones, be cured themselves, and then be fed on by the remaining vampires. I should note that I happened to see this and Legion around the same time. That film makes Daybreakers look like goddamn Citizen Kane.

Re: Daybreakers - Vampire movie from "Undead" directors

Watched this tonight. Pretty well done. All the characters were surprisingly sympathetic. The only thing I wish they had touched upon more was how the company was never interested in a cure but only a synthetic blood replacement. I viewed it as a commentary on the pharmaceuticals industry, where substitute vampirism for HIV or whatever modern illness the drug companies aren't interested in curing.

Good movie.

Started out good then went "Meh".

I was thinking that it was like I Am Legend(smith) from the point of view of the "infected"

It sort of lost steam for me when Ethan goes off with the human resistance. I echo the sentiment of wanting to see more of the Subsiders.

yeah I agree, I thought most of the movie was pretty good, but the ending seemed like there should of been another 30-45 minutes. The movie feels like it builds to something then just ends.

Watched this weekend. Feel just about the same way all the rest of you do about it. Such great potential in the first 30 mins. -- then a predictable middle -- then a pretty neat finale.

Yeah, it was a bit of a letdown how abruptly it ended. Still thought it was really good and creative for the most part though.

The first hour of this film was great...kinda took a shit after that though but still not bad. Sam Neil was awesome and I dug the feeding frenzy towards the end.

not sure why I put this in my netflix queue, but I'm glad I did
soon as my next batch of gift certificates come from my amazon visa I'm going to buy it

definitely an interesting take on vampires, I like the self propagating cure

and the nipple action on the main actress was nice
