Maybe, if you've only seen 5 zombie movies

Okay... I should restate that...

It's one of the worst zombie movies not to go directly to DVD.

Re: Daybreakers - Vampire movie from "Undead" directors

Got a rave review from Massawyrm at AICN.

"A brilliant and fantastically original take on the genre, the Spierig’s re-entry onto the scene after a six-year hiatus is fraught with horror, angst and more than a few tense, high octane scenes of action. Driven by a cast of terrific actors like the aforementioned Ethan Hawke, Sam Neil and Willem Dafoe, this film is absolutely everything you want from science fiction, dripping in all the blood you want from horror.

Destined to be considered one of the modern genre classics, this is one of those films that will get into your head and force you to wander around in a post-vampirapocalyptic world, wondering about how this or that would work. Internally consistent throughout, the Spierigs have brought us a new world to play in, and they’ve made it entertaining as all hell to boot. Easily one of the very best things to play at Fantastic Fest this year, you will not be disappointed once this gets unleashed early next year. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, see this film at your earliest opportunity."

I'm hoping this is good.

The cast has people who can definitely deliver.

Saw that trailer right before the suffering that was "2012" and it sure interested me.

is it just me or has Sam Neil not aged a day since Jurassic Park?

I'm definitely looking forward to this one. Perhaps vampires aren't completely played out after all.

This seems a little familiar to A Perfect Creature.

I liked that so I will check this out.

Undead did nothing for me, it was a huge bore.

I would be more stoked for this if it weren't being released in the January dumping ground of bad movies.... maybe a matinee.

Hadn't really seen the trailer on this film. The trailer provided by Dr. Mabuse was very good and I'll probably catch it when it opens.

Re: Daybreakers - Vampire movie from "Undead" directors

Early reviews at Rotten Tomatoes are 100% positive as of today (01/03).

Although that percentage will eventually drop at some point, that's a damn good sign for this movie.

Cool.

It looked like it had promise with that cast, and continues to get good reviews.

I think I'm stoked.

Hope you guys dig it. It's a spooky, entertaining film -- easily the best thing opening this coming weekend.

Re: Daybreakers - Vampire movie from "Undead" directors

Has anyone else noticed that none of the outfits seem to fit Ethan Hawke in this film? His hat and jacket for example seem like he just bought it at a Halloween costume shop.

I absolutely loved this movie. I saw it earlier and thought the whole plot and creativity were very refreshing.

I've seen plenty. Granted when you watch Spike TV alot, then you get ads for the lions gate movies and the obscure horror/action movies

Re: Daybreakers - Vampire movie from "Undead" directors

I was excited for this and turned out to be disappointed. It was more interesting than entertaining and felt like a real missed opportunity. My biggest issues were:
Spoiler:
Why did the vampire world have to be so boring? There was no discernible difference between the vampire world and the human world other than drinking blood, different color eyes, and fangs. I was really pulled into the premise early, but it just became boring once the rules were established that nothing was different.

And the 'cure' is one of the biggest cop outs in a long ass time. If all it takes is a controlled burn for an unspecified period of time, how is Willem Dafoe the only vampire ever to hop out in the sun for a couple of seconds before being extinguished?
The violence was strong though and I liked a lot of the visuals. It just didn't work for me and I went in with some pretty high expectations.

Re: Daybreakers - Vampire movie from "Undead" directors

It was ultimately fairly bland. It had a lot of good ideas, but no clue what to do with them.
