Yea. I'm not really into this stuff. But the DC "cinematic universe" is not yet a thing. They have Nolan's awesome Batman movies (who they have to change the actor ... if it's staying in the same universe) and a sorta-good sorta-forgettable Superman movie.
Not that they can't launch something. But that's what it is ... a launch.

I think if there wasn't proof already that this film being announced solidifies that DC/Warner doesn't have a clue as to what they're doing. I mean I like the Suicide Squad, but in the grand scheme of things its not that important and nothing that I think will be a box office hit. Especially doing it so early it just feels random and like they're just making films to make them. It really is disheartening because I've been a DC guy a long time but instead of doing these films right it seems like they're just pissing opportunities away by trying to make a bunch of stuff all at once and hoping that some of it turns out decent.

Bruce Wayne retires at the end of Rises. He's done as Batman. His mission was successful. He wanted to rid Gotham of organized crime, which he did. Now he retires and lives with Selina Kyle. He passed the cowl on to John Blake.
They could potentially use John Blake in the DC Cinematic Universe, but that would be an enormous mistake. The first live-action big-screen meeting of Batman and Superman HAS to be between Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent, not John Blake and Clark Kent. No one would give a shit about Blake and Kent interacting. Everyone wants Wayne and Kent.
They could potentially set the DC Cinematic Universe before Rises, but where? After the Dark Knight, Batman is a wanted criminal accused of killing Harvey Dent. He's not going to join the Justice League as a wanted fugitive.
The only way it could possibly work is to have it set between Begins and Knight, but then you have the problem of Batman still becoming a wanted fugitive for 8 years so why didn't the rest of the JL do anything about it?
Nolan's trilogy just won't work in connection with the DC Cinematic Universe. Nolan's trilogy is completely standalone.

To me the Suicide Squad is an odd choice for one of the DC Cinematic Universe's early films. It seems more like something to introduce after the universe is already established as its a fairly random team of villains and only fanboys will even know what its supposed to be.

Jared Leto Eyed to Play The Joker in WB's ‘Suicide Squad’ (Exclusive)
http://www.thewrap.com/jared-leto-ey...uad-exclusive/
Oscar winner Jared Leto is circling a key role in David Ayer‘s “Suicide Squad” that could prove to be The Joker, an individual familiar with the Warner Bros. project has told TheWrap.
Warner Bros. had no comment, while a representative for Leto did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Tom Hardy, Will Smith and Margot Robbie are in various stages of discussions to star in “Suicide Squad,” which David Ayer is directing and Charles Roven is producing. Jesse Eisenberg is also expected to reprise his role as Superman's mortal foe Lex Luthor, though no casting is confirmed at this time.
Ryan Gosling was initially sought to play The Joker but he was unwilling to sign a deal with options for multiple movies, according to one insider.

Yep, and (again, if true) this is shaping up to be one heck of a cast.

Interesting, I kind of thought Joker would be untouchable for a few more years, I think Leto would do well. I don't see Gosling as the Joker though...

I think Leto is a fine actor, just not sure if he would be good as the Joker. I can imagine his performance would be too predictable. Robbie as Harley Quin is fine. She is good looking....and thats all thats needed for the role. Very one dimensional comic (well animated originally) character.

Robbie is officially on. Right. I guess that's good news. I really like the squad. I wonder how they'll put this into context of the DCCU continuity. Meaning as to what backstories some of these characters will have.
Either way, Ayer is doing this. That man knows how to make badass. So that's promising cuz he don't pull punches.
