Re: Stallone says Rambo will return soon

So basically this will be Trade but with lots of gunplay, decapitations, dismemberments, strangulations, etc.

I welcome Rambo 5... the last one was pretty good especially considering my expectations were very low. Stallone has done a pretty damn good job of re-inventing his career.

Fuck to the Yes.

If it's half as brutal as the last one we're all in for a treat. Anyone else think he's gonna kill him off in this one, though? I have a feeling.

If they do....I just have a bad feeling to a sappy and crappy ending to the character.

Re: Stallone says Rambo will return soon

Stallone wont ever kill off Rambo. He made a point of not killing him off in the first movie because he felt it sent the wrong message about guys that have gone through what this character went through in Vietnam.

If Rambo ever dies, it'll be of old age and coincide with Stallone's own death. And I certainly hope that is a long ways off.

Hopefully this one is more in the mold of First Blood. I'd really like to see a little more drama mixed in with the action.

I admit. I'd like more a First Blood vibe. Less cliche stupid christian missionaries, more depth in plot and storytelling.

I believe the missionaries were a means to get Rambo to address his own personal issues. Mainly the fact that he was running from facing how the world may have changed back home and he was in a place he had no business being. Unlike the missionaries, he didn't have some idealized view of going there to change things. He was in the middle of the filth because he felt that's where he belonged to be.

If anything, the ending at the Rambo farm suggested to me that a First Blood vibe is exactly what they'd be going for in this one. That's why I hope the Mexican human traffickers storyline takes a backseat to John Rambo finally coming full circle.

I wonder what they're gonna call this thing? The Rambo titles have never made much sense to me...

And for all we know, he'll probably call it John Rambo and the Expendables. Hmm, I really like that idea. Stallone playing dual roles leading a massive team of badasses.

Re: Stallone says Rambo will return soon

Hmmmmm..... from AICN:

Hey folks, Harry here... I'm fascinated by the conversation I had spontaneously just had with Sylvester Stallone. Apparently there are a lot of rumors out there about the next RAMBO, some of which have been floated by the Trades - but the reality is quite a bit different. It does involve Rambo back in the United States. But from what Sly told me, it is structured quite a bit different.

You see, it is set in the Pacific Northwest. Back in the general area where we first were introduced to John. It seems that somewhere in that Area there is a U.S. Military installation that is doing experiments on elite soldiers as part of some sort of program where they're attempting to tap into that SAVAGERY that we have deeply embedded into us. The plan is create brilliantly instinctual killer soldiers that have no qualms about taking life. Sly brought up the ancient Immortals, which were cartoonishly glimpsed in 300. In reality, they were children trained from the time they were infants to kill.

Well as happens with Government Experiments to create the perfect killer - it goes exceptionally well... and then exceptionally badly. And Rambo is brought in with a Black Ops squad ("Like in PREDATOR") to hunt, capture or kill this worse than Rambo killer.

As you should know, it is early on the project. They've whipped up a quicky one-sheet that will be somewhere around the Toronto Film Festival beginning tomorrow. You can see it here!

What has me excited about this story is the idea that Rambo is now the man chasing instead of being chased. The idea of John Rambo tracking a killer in the woods of the Pacific Northwest is just very cool sounding. So, what do you guys & gals think?

Personally, I liked the other idea better.

I hope so too. I loved what Stallone did with ROCKY BALBOA, but RAMBO (aka RAMBO IV) just seemed like a bloodier version of RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART II. I've mentioned it before, but I would have much rather the last movie started where it ended: with Rambo arriving home after many years outside the States.

Re: Stallone says Rambo will return soon

Hmm. Rambo the hunter. I like it. Though technically he did a bit of hunting in Rambo. But the experimented soldiers angles sounds a touch cheesy. It depends on how they develop that angle.

Re: Stallone says Rambo will return soon

Yea, they need to change it so that he's trying to track down a younger "Rambo". Leave the experimentation stuff out of a Rambo film. This sounds like they are remaking "The Hunted".

Ok....ok...I take it back. The Mexican border thing made a lot more sense than this new thing.

Re: Stallone says Rambo will return soon

I still like that idea that was floated around back before Rambo 4. Some militia is arming up for a war against the govt. & Rambo has to go in and stop them. It also had Brian Denehy's character from First Blood in it. He & Rambo have to work together to take down the militia.

Re: Stallone says Rambo will return soon

It would have been cool to see Brian Denehy's character forced into working with John Rambo. That would make for an interesting dynamic.

Maybe they should keep the woods portion of this current plot but ditch the super soldiers and instead put in that militia idea and a Brian Denehy/Silvester Stallone teamup. Heck, bring back Matthew Marsden from Rambo. He was badass as Schoolboy with that sniper rifle.

Hmm, so now it is actually a half-man creature.... interesting. Personally I still prefer the standard Mexican druglords storyline... But all well, it's another Rambo at least.

I've probably read a dozen different Rambo 4/5 scripts. No one mentioned the one in which Will Teasle (Brian Dennehy) learns that John Rambo has finally returned to the United States. He and his three sons track him down and hunt him similiar to the first movie.

Re: Stallone says Rambo will return soon

Yeah, I remember the one about Will Teasle and his three sons. Rambo starts out camping with his daughter, right?

I just don't like that idea because it has a been there/done that feel to it. I think it's more interesting to have Will Teasle and John Rambo forced to work together.

Re: Stallone says Rambo will return soon

Wouldn't Teasle be like 70-80 yrs old now? I don't see how he can be used in any way but a cameo, which i wouldn't mind seeing.
