That's what I figure'd. I was actually expecting to see his hand come down and grab the mask, then attack them.

I thought it was great. I had a lot of fun - first time in awhile. One thing I gotta point out - did anyone else have to stand in line forever, then only have half the line be turned away at the door?

Man, it was great. The line was so ridiculously long (I got there an hour before showtime, too). After they started letting people in, they checked EVERYONE'S ID - half the line was turned away since kids were trying to sneak in to it. It was awesome. I never saw that before.

Overall I thought it was great. Nice retelling, great funny parts. Can't wait for the inevitable sequel!

even the cast was annoying - they looked like CW rejects.
Seeing as how 75% of the shit I watch is on the CW I can't really complain about that. Hey, hot chicks > interesting plot. At least in my world.

It you want to see a really shitty horror movie, rent one of those Dimension Extreme titles.
But the majority of those are Direct-to-DVD though. It's different. Unless they create a Netflix for theatrical releases. Which would rock.

Loved it. Saw the first showing yesterday with about 15 other people and enjoyed it. Definite Blu-ray purchase for me.

Re: Friday the 13th (2009) — The Reviews Thread

movie was alot of fun, first half was great before the title credit was fantastic, I loved the shot of him running towards the guy and right before he gets the guy it cuts to the title.

7.5/10

spoiler......

Movie was fun, the last 10 minutes or so were extremely lame though. Why the hell would they carry Jasons body way to the dock and throw him in for? and why just stand there? After they "killed" him I would of been out of there

I think why people like this was it was fun.

Rob Zombies Halloween was not a fun slasher flick, it was ugly, depressing, mean spirted, no humor, Felt dirty watching that movie I did not have fun watching that movie.=

I think my opinion came out more negative than I thought it was, but I stand by it.

Re: Friday the 13th (2009) — The Reviews Thread

Saw MBV 3D, this, and Friday the 13th Part VII back to back to back in a Friday the 13th horror marathon.

To start, this was waaaay better than MBV, but I can't believe people are saying they liked this while saying they hated Rob Zombie's Halloween. Perhaps it's because Halloween is a true horror classic, whereas Friday the 13th is known more for its silliness and excess. Personally, I preferred Halloween to this.

Anyway, this film had me for a good while. The pre-title sequence was excellent. The set-up sequences were well done. I liked seeing the guy going around searching for his sister. Once Jason started stalking people at the house, I kind of lost interest. I liked the idea of him roaming the woods. At the house it was too easy to kill everyone. Also, this seemed like the point where the kills got increasingly less interesting.

I loved the fact that this film was so filled with nudity. It seems like these days, filmmakers shy away from nudity in horror. It was nice to see this really taking advantage of the R rating.

I got sick very quickly of the "character thinks he sees something, investigates, it's nothing, suddenly Jason is behind him!" trick. How often has this been done in the other Friday movies and a million other slashers? Do something different, please.

Spoiler:
I'll say this: I didn't give a shit about Whitney. I cared about the brother's quest to find her, but Whitney was in it for such a short amount of time that I was really pissed they killed the chick from Shark just so they could have Whitney be the ass-kicking female lead. That decision alone kept me from loving the movie.

The douche who owned the house needed to have a much longer, more drawn out death. The filmmakers really missed a trick with that one.

The ending was stupid. You're supposed to let the survivors get away, and then have some new unsuspecting person get attacked. Even then, it's still a tired twist and while an homage to the original, not very good.

I enjoyed some of it, but I wouldn't own it.

Re: Friday the 13th (2009) — The Reviews Thread

Zombie's Halloween had many of the right elements of a good slasher flick, he just didn't know how to correctly assemble them. Too much needless backstory followed by a condensed version of Carpenter's classic told in 30 min is why that film is so loathed. Personally, I think the workprint cut was the best version.

As for this flick, and the forthcoming sequel, here's what I would have liked/want to see:

- big unmasking scene at the end
- new mask sculpt
- the obligatory "friend's body tossed through window when their name is called out"
- hanging victims like trophies
- better, orchestral score

Add those elements back into the film and the sequel will be pure gold.

Edit: I also had a few issues/questions/observations about the new film...

Spoiler:

If Jason has been in those woods for 28+ years, why would Trent's family build a cabin right there? Wouldn't the general contractors building it be getting picked off left and right by Jason? Or Trent's family anytime they visited for that matter?

Also, if the weed-dealing mechanic has been living there forever, why would Jason choose to kill him now? Was he angry the guy stole some of his weed?

These aren't things that should be thought about too much, just kinda thought they seemed like obvious plotholes. But, again, I don't watch F13th films for the plot.

I am looking forward to viewing the Unrated Alternate Cut that Platinum Dunes is preparing for the DVD release.

I agree with the above comment about Danielle Panabaker's character and her fate. Righetti didn't have enough screentime to have me emotionally invested in her character.

Re: Friday the 13th (2009) — The Reviews Thread

i liked the movie and will buy the unrated dvd, but i don't consider it a friday the 13th movie. it had no "kill kill kill" whispers and used a lot of songs by bands. i didn't like that. stuff like that took me out of the movie.

also, lots of lame dialogue. like when the guy dropped his cellphone in the water and says "where are you phone" out loud. right, nice writing.

all the stupid wannabe-cool drug and party references annoyed me too.

Actually, I think he said, "Where are you, gun?" which is somehow even stupider.

I agree with a lot of what has been said, the movie could have been much worse, but it also could have been much better. And I'm tired of the whole "What were you expecting, Shakespeare?" argument. Please. I know what I was expecting, and I didn't get it.

Re: Friday the 13th (2009) — The Reviews Thread

There were a few things that I didn't love, but all in all I really enjoyed the movie and am going back for more tomorrow. I thought it was really back to basics and fits right in with the earlier movies, and is even better than some of them (although I love almost all of them). That's a Friday the 13th movie the way I like it and thought would never ever get again.

The actor playing Jason I thought was really, really, really good. I liked how he was just so ON IT in his kills. I would like to see him in the mask again hopefully soon. Bring on part 2.

That one was good, but in terms of sheer visceral impact, the one I listed was far better.

Re: Friday the 13th (2009) — The Reviews Thread

I didn't like this one very much. I had a free ticket from the My name is Jason DVD and went to see it tonight. Not very much worth remembering or clever or exciting bout this one. I dont why the bad 80's slasher films are better and much more watchable than these new bad slasher films but they just are. They were much more fun. This new one just felt like a chore to get through. I wish I would've gone to see the International. What the hell was I thinking,.
