It's sort of a shame the way that Allen's name has become something you have to hide on promotional material.

Looks like an episode of Curbed Your Enthusiasm. Which isn't a bad thing, but nothing makes it seem like he's playing a character other than his HBO persona.

His performance is more like an impersonation of Allen than his Curb David role.

Not really a fan of Allen movies and I don't really like David in this; thought it might have been better.

What's wrong? I was thinking of giving the movie a chance because I really like Larry David, but the trailer doesn't show me much to like. And his first bit is a too much of a complete impression of Woody Allen for my tastes.

mentioning anything at all.

I see every Woody Allen movie in the theatre. Not every film he makes is great, but his great ones far outnumber those. I feel very lucky to be living in his lifetime. He will go down as one of the most important artists of the turn of the century.

Oh man. I will see this opening weekend for sure... but Larry David (at least from the trailer) doesn't seem like a terribly good actor. I think Woody should've played this part himself... or maybe cast someone like Dustin Hoffman.

Saw this yesterday at a very crowded theater that nevertheless had showings approximately every 45 minutes. The audience response was great and the fourth-wall-breaking scenes were delightful.

My husband & I flew over to LA to see the movie with friends, on Friday. The movie is hilarious! We will see it again once it goes national. Great one-liners too LOL

You understand, of course, that 21-year-old Evan Rachel Wood actually marries the Larry David character in the film. Try casting her opposite 73-year-old Woody or 71-year-old Dustin. It's bad enough that Larry David was about 61 when he made this.

Re: Whatever Works (Woody Allen, 2009): Larry David, Evan Rachel Wood

Saw this last night and it really exceeded my expectations which were already pretty high given the talent. The script was really great, and the movie never had a moment that was a lull. Larry was great, no miscasting at all. All of the characters were very funny. I love how Woody, who is the consummate pessimist takes dark subjects and turns them on their heads into comedy. It's true that there really is a thin line between tragedy and comedy. I will definitely buy the DVD, and may end up seeing it in the theater again. Recommended!!!

I wasn't aware of that at the time. Still haven't seen this. I will, but mostly out of obligation. The trailer really looks bad. Larry David doesn't appear able to act his way out of a paper bag, and I had hoped Woody was done with adolescent girls dating retired senior citizens. Ugh. I swear I'm going to make a movie with Judy Dench dating Zac Efron (and at least Dench is an attractive older person, unlike Larry David).

Maybe he should go back to Europe. Vicky Christina Barcelona was the best thing he's done in a decade. Yes, better than Match Point.

Really liked it - David was hilarious and classic Allen dialogue throughout. Very funny and brisk. A nice throwback to good comedic Woody. 3.5/5
