Awesome. Didn't know this started filming. I figured that it was still in stalled-out mode.

Re: World War Z

As did I. Guess the studio REALLY wants to get this movie done and keep going regardless of hiccups. Hopefully everything turns out fine.

Re: World War Z

This movie is going to suck, guaranteed. The way this movie is being discussed, with huge set pieces involving hundreds if not thousands of actors, tons of CGI, explosions, etc etc, will not work as a zombie movie.

Zombie movies aren't scary because the zombies are threatening, or scary, or even terrifying. When a movie attempts to make them terrifying, it becomes a comedy. Zombie movies usually focus more on the humans as monsters, not the zombies. Zombies actually make horrible movie monster villains. They're slow, stupid, incapable of formulating plans, totally mindless, etc. In movies like Day of the Dead, it's the humans that are much more terrifying.

The reason why zombie movies like the Resident Evil series, Apocalypse, and I am Legend were so stupid is because they tried to make zombies into the villain, a monster that could be fought and provide an antagonist for the hero.

They might as well make a movie about killer ants. No, not giant killer ants, just regular sized ants that are coming for you.

Superboy, you could have just said "I haven't read the book" and made your same point with a lot less words.

Re: World War Z

I read the book (and it's one of my favorites) and I am very concerned that Paramount will screw this up. The fact that they brought Marc Forster (who I think we've all lost confidence in after the mess that was Quantum of Solace) on board only on the condition that he give them a PG-13 cut basically killed all my hope of this being good. This is one of those times where the rating matters.

Re: World War Z

well...Zombies are pretty basic I guess in what makes them...a zombie. They're dead(ish). And decompose. And hunger for flesh (is it just human sometimes or all the time?). The creatures in IAL...aren't dead..and they don't decompose. They're very much alive. Have issues w/ UV rays. And...they hunt. Make traps (well one did) and...have emotions.

Slightly different from Zombies.

Because it has vampires, not zombies. Though it's been a while since I've seen the forgettable movie and can't recall if maybe they botched explaining that.

It's been awhile since I've seen it, but that is not what I recall. They avoided coming out during the day and they showed some evidence of intelligence/social structure which you don't usually associate w/ zombie movies. I mean most of the movie was about one of them trying to free what I thought was its mate that Smith had captured.

That is absolutely not true. They were vampires without the bloodsucking.

And the book World War Z has plenty of big set pieces, especially early on when they didn't understand the threat. The later parts of the book are more focused on clean-up and recovery.

I think this has a lot of potential.

Why? A poor director is attached, the studio is making it PG-13, the reviews of the 2nd draft of the script have been poor.

I loved both Quantum of Solace and Stranger Than Fiction and my wife enjoyed Finding Neverland...I don't think Forester is a bad director in the slightest.

I don't think PG-13 makes a movie good or bad, and this movie doesn't need a lot of gore to capture the tone of the book.

I could give two shits about early script reviews.

Re: World War Z

No zombie movie has ever been PG-13, at the very least no zombie film worth anything. You just can't accomplish the look and threat of a zombie without gore, let alone an entire global population of zombies.

AMC's The Walking Dead manages to do this on a show that would probably garner a PG-13 rating.

I don't see the rating being a problem here.

Granted, there's not a lot of zombie carnage, but you honestly think this would get a PG-13?

<object width="640" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/afcWyJhsBXo?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/afcWyJhsBXo?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="390" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

I wish I could live in a world where the MPAA would give that one-minute clip a PG-13.

It's kind of hard to make a PG-13 film based upon the fact the only way to kill a zombie is either to dismember them or shoot them directly in the head.
