"Let The Right One In" - Best Vampire Movie In Years? 2010 Remake?
While I'm sure others have seen this Swedish masterpiece already, I was a bit late and caught it last weekend at a local theatre here in Toronto. It was really, really good. I'm now seeing that they're remaking it in 2010. Does anyone think this has a hope in hell of coming out decent as a US remake?
Before anyone slams me, I am NOT against remakes. A few years ago I was a little upset by them, but I've come to learn from my mistakes. I know for example Will Smith is about to remake OLDBOY, and while I'm not sure what the results will be like, I'm not upset by the notion at all.
In terms of "Let The Right One In", I don't see how they could create this film in North America without causing controversy, and possibly being banned in some states due to the nature and underlying themes in the movie. I can already pictures angry mothers and groups protesting against some of the scenes due to the age of the main character, and the relationship with the others characters within the film. Does anyone think this can be done without losing it's dark side? Would they just try to mask the sexual aspects of the film from the audience? I don't see how they could maintain the impact of the story if they did, but I just don't see how they could pull this off. The other option would be to cast teenage actors, however IMO that changes the movie completely. Anyhow, hopefully someone can chime in and give some feedback.
