I could tell it wasn't an Apatow production because Apatow's movies are actually funny.

saw this today and loved it. everything jody hill touches is pure gold and he's a great new voice in comedy. something about it really just gets to me and i can really appreciate it. i'll agree that this movie is not for everyone but if you love films like taxi driver or falling down and you have a dark sense of humor then i'm sure you'll enjoy this flick.

Don't forget about Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Jane Lynch, Ken Jeong and Joe LoTruglio, who have all appeared in Apatow projects. I'd actually reckon McLovin is the reason they think it's an Apatow film.

Yeah, talk about a sweeping generalization. You can also include "Walk Hard", "Step Brothers" and "You Don't Mess with the Zohan". Even though he was one of the three writers on the last.

Yeah, I forgot about Mintz-Plasse. Jane Lynch is a Christopher Guest regular to me, and Joe LoTruglio, along with the rest of the State cast, is obviously from the David Wain camp.

I get told my voice and delivery is his. Maybe we can get a ventriloquist act going?

Saw this and liked the dark humor. Very depraved. Not for everyone certainly.

Excellent, excellent, excellent film!! Seth Rogan's best acting role as well!

Why are people even talking about "the amount of laughs" in this film? Don't you know what a black comedy is? Observe and Report is a black comedy.

Black comedies still have laughs. The film certainly doesn't work as a dramatic piece. Comedy is pretty much all its got.

A black comedy can have a lot of laughs or not one laugh. It's okay if you didn't like the film, but this movie is clearly a black comedy.

Re: Observe and Report (Hill, 2009): Seth Rogen, Anna Faris, Ray Liotta

I really enjoyed the movie. I thought Rogen was amazing. I do think the movie is a bit of a mess but it works very well for the story.

I loved seeing Patton Oswalt in this. He is my favorite comedian and just an all around cool guy. Seeing him in anything always makes me happy.
Spoiler:
I loved the scene where Rogen beat Oswalt's head into the oven.

I forgot to add that this was Ray Liotta's best performance since Narc.

I didn't read any reviews or any posts in this thread til now, but I thought the trailers were misleading, yes it's a black comedy and I could take it for what it was, but the characters were not that well developed, and you just saw the surface of them, I also thought there was a mean streak to the humour and the overuse of expletives robbed the film of any sort of plausibility. OK not great.

question

Spoiler:
what was the song playing when Seth's chasing the streaker near the end of the movie?

How does swearing rob the film of plausibility exactly? I know a lot of people that curse like sailors, even with their superiors around. I remember similar complaints with Superbad which made no sense, high school kids swear like theres no tomorrow.

He's probably referring more to how people don't seem to react to it. I'd say most people wouldn't use foul language to their boss, like Rogen does, nor would it fly on television, which it also does in the movie.

I just got around to getting this on disc and watching it.

I love this film.

The awesomeness of this movie still has me overwhelmed.
