I voted for The Departed. Raging Bull and Casino are also very overrated, imo. Underrated ones would be The Aviator and Bringing Out the Dead

Gangs of New York was garbage, so I pick that.

What's wrong with being artsy? l personally love the Alka-Seltzer shot - glad Scorsese fought to keep it, as the sequence manages to speak volumes about Travis Bickle through only a brief, indelible image. DeNiro's performance is obviously crucial to the film's success, but the combination of Schrader's script and Scorsese's direction would have produced a worthwhile no matter who had been in the lead.

I watched 'The Departed' again last night. First time I had done so since the DVD release.

I was again disappointed in the watered down film.

I was again disgusted with one of the most glaring continuity problems I can think of in a film. Leonardo sits in the porn theatre where Damon and Jack are meeting. We are very deliberately shown him receiving text messages with the phone on 'vibrate', the foley people are careful to make the sound heard. He gets up to follow Damon in a foot chase. OOOOHHHH out in the alley his phone 'magically' rings with a text message! Somehow the phone 'magically' set itself to ring, or the director was phoning this shit in. One of those two.

What a lame-ass piece of plot development.

I again decided 'The Departed' doesn't hold a candle to 'Infernal Affairs' in any way.

Agreed. I still can't believe it ranks so high on IMDb. 45th all-time? That's vomit inducing.

I think I'm one of the only people that liked it more than Infernal Affairs. But yeah it's ranked wayyy high on imdb, not that anyone takes imdb seriously.

Considering the fact that it's rated far higher than IA, I think most people share your sentiment. Then again, far less people have seen IA, and I'm willing to bet many don't know The Departed is a remake.

I voted for Casino. I was so excited to see it in theaters, but it really left me flat. It's certainly no Goodfellas, which is what I was expecting. And for the life of me, I have no idea why Sharon Stone got an Oscar nomination for that shrieking "performance"; she was the worst thing in the film for me. I know the Golden Globes would nominate her for a youtube posting, but you'd think the Oscars would know better.
