Interesting (to me) news: Wes Anderson to direct Roald Dahl's "Fantastic Mr. Fox"...

"Fantastic Mr. Fox" was always my favorite of Roald Dahl's books when I was a kid and I just read that Wes Anderson is set to direct its film adaptation in stop-motion animation. It's a great kid's story about a devious fox (the good guy) who outsmarts an obsessed farmer (the bad guy). I'm not sure that Anderson was the right choice to direct as he's never done animation before, but who knows.

Here's one of many links, it also has some good info on the new "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", in-the-works film adaptations of "The Twits" and "The B.F.G." (another great book) and other Dahl news...:

Sounds good to me. I've always been a big Roald Dahl fan.

I thought it was Spike Jonze that was doing an animated feature. First him now Wes! Crazy stuff.

The Fantastic Mr. Fox (Wes Anderson, 2009) - animated, w/ voices of Clooney & Murray

This had been in production for some time, but according to Variety, has just wrapped:
Anderson just completed directing an animated adaptation of Roald Dahl novel "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" with 20th Century Fox Animation.
Based on the Roald Dahl children's classic. This should be tremendous fun.

Directed by
Wes Anderson

Writing credits
Roald Dahl (novel)

Wes Anderson screenplay
Noah Baumbach screenplay

Cast

George Clooney ... Mr. Fox (voice)

Cate Blanchett ... Mrs. Fox (voice)

Bill Murray ... (voice)

Jason Schwartzman

Anjelica Huston

The Variety article also mentioned that Anderson's next project is "My Best Friend," a remake of the 2006 Patrice Leconte-directed French comedy "Mon meilleur ami."

Fantastic, I hadn't realized they were actually doing this one, I'd thought it was just a possibility.

Great news, although it's sad to see that even Wes Anderson has fallen prey to the Hollywood trend of using celebrities for animated voices instead of true voice actors.

I dunno, everyone besides Clooney is part of Anderson's "stock company" to some degree. But Clooney is the biggest name.

I just hope Peter Cullens wasn't up for the part of Mr. Fox.

Ha, that's what I actually thought Suprmallet meant when I first read, "fallen prey to Hollywood trend."

I don't mind the change up; Mr. Fox is Anderson's first adaption, too. As I mentioned on a previous Anderson thread, I would rank his movies in the order of release (best to worst; with Bottle Rocket at the top). They've all been good, but I really enjoyed the three he co-wrote with Owen Wilson (Bottle Rocket, Rushmore and Royal Tennenbaums) the most.

I'm looking forward to Mr. Fox, and I hope it alters the trend in my personal rankings of his films. I'm curious how the old-school fx will go over.

It's a Wes Anderson movie - I'll be seeing it. I'm especially looking forward to Jarvis Cocker's score/new songs:

Early (and unilluminating) buzz

And here's the film's logo:

Brief take on test screening. Apparently the voice of Mrs. Fox is Meryl Streep and not Blanchett?

This film and Where the Wild Things Are will probably end up being my top two for this year.

Anyone know when the first trailer is to come out?

Hopefully this and Wild Things bring back the edge and fun of good 80's kids movies like Gremlins, Labyrinth, etc.
Having said that I hope Jonze and Anderson get their kids movie outta them with their respective releases and go back to making movies for adults.
Wonder what the soundtrack for This Mr. FOx thing will be like though. Thats what I am most curious about. I hope we get another great soundtrack or 70's music.

Most of Jonze's and Anderson's movies are about adults who act like children, so it makes total sense for them to make films with and/or for actual children.
