I don't think I'll see either to be honest, bit at least the new TNMT looks like it could be better than any of the other live-action Ninja Turtles movies of the past

Is that a joke? The first film is a classic and the second one is a really fun film too. This looks like typical Michael Bay. Nothing unique or special about it at all.

Yeah. The first one is a really good adaptation of what the general populace knew of them and the comic. Really solid film with really good people working to make those turtles work in live action. I still would love to see how they made them work in that time. Really good tech work along with performers probably pushing those suits to an extreme in mobility.

I remember when I first watched the first movie, I was genuinely surprised by its dark tone, especially as a kid. I assume it holds more closely to the comics? It's really hard for me to come up with any moral or aesthetic defense for the second film, but I do think it's tons of fun.

Between Bay and Leibsman, I'll skip this one unless the reviews are stellar, and I don't we that happening. Transformers was enough pain for me, thanks. The 80s can end, for the second time.

The first film was almost a straight up adaption from the comics. They did bring in some elements from the cartoon and changed it from Leo to Raphael who got injured. Not sure the issue numbers but the 4th graphic novel had where the story came from

Wrong!

Spoiler:
Shredder blew himself up with a grenade (Trying to take the turtles out with him) and the end of issue 1. It was during the end of the Return to New York arc where Leo decapitated Shredder's clone (made with the aid of some worms) and then burned the body so Shredder could never be cloned again.

Heh, yeah that's why I deleted my post, I wasn't sure at what point it occurred. But was that during the beginning of the run, or later?

It was later. Shredder was meant to be a one-off villain but later returned since he was popular despite his only one appearance at the time.

Lucky you. Liebsman has taken the reigns on movies that sound GREAT on paper and produced a rancid turd each time out - I adore the turtles but I know this guy is going to fuck it up. I'll be happy as hell to come back here August 8 and eat crow, but I doubt it.

Although someone in marketing obviously didn't think that poster through, 9/11 doesn't hold the same significance in Australia as it does here.

Well "no significance" might be a little too extreme. 11 Australian citizens died in 9/11, so while I understand your point, it's at least significant to some in Australia.

Regardless, twitter (and the internet in general) has no borders and PR departments for major companies have a bigger responsibility (and unenviable job) to understand potential cultural issues before putting something out there for all the world to see.

I think someone in Paramount's marketing department is currently seeking new employment.

I would think whoever came up with the concept art knowing the release date, would be in hot water as well.

Well, they had to work in the colors orange and teal, and an explosion in the sky was the best they came up with.

I still find this poster less offensive then the one I'm sure the studio first wanted; I imagine it had April in her orange jumpsuit (with her backside towards us) at the bottom of the page, floating teal turtle heads above her, all within the silhouette of Shredder.

You're right, I don't think the poster had an overwhelming Teal/Orange push.

Just back from the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movie. Despite their new, buffed appearance, these are the same crazy turtles I remember my son growing up with in the 80's and 90's. Like Guardians of the Galaxy, I had a way better time with the movie than I thought I would. Laughs all the way through it, Shredder, the Foot Clan, and their partner were all appropriately menacing, the origin story was tweaked a bit to create closer ties between the Turtles, Splinter, and April O'Neil, and the action was a lot of fun - especially the chase down a snow covered mountain in a semi-truck. I would say appropriate for Turtle fans ages 9-10 and up. I enjoyed the 3D as well.

There's nothing I've seen in the trailers or TV spots that makes it seem inappropriate for kids. It just looks pretty lame in general.
I just got back from it. Outside of a couple "a$$"'s and a Foot soldier exposed to a toxin by his own boss, the violence is what I would call "mild PG-13". I would be comfortable with a 9 or 10 year old Turtle fan seeing it. It is nowhere near as violent as Guardians of the Galaxy, for example.

Sorry, no reptile nudity. I was speaking about the language. It was extremely mild for a PG-13 film.
