I chose Au Hasard Balthazar

Glad to see a thread like this get more than a couple of responses.

Pickpocket by far for me, but I seem to be in the minority.

I haven't seen any Bresson. I guess I will let the poll dictate where I start.

Paul Schrader has cited Pickpocket as a major influence on Taxi Driver, so you're certainly in good company.

Re: Favorite Bresson Film?

I apparently voted for Pickpocket at some point, but nowadays I'd probably go with Dairy of a Country Priest or A Man Escaped. I still haven't seen his post-Mouchette work, though.

IMO L' Argent, The Devil, Probably & Lancelot of the Lake are excellent.
Bresson is right up there with Tarkovsky as one of the all time greats.

I really like Bresson, but his films have never resonated with me quite as much as Tarkovsky's. I showed Diary to one of my friends, though, and Bresson instantly became his all-time favorite filmmaker.

Anyways, I imported all three of those films from the UK - I just haven't gotten around to them yet.

Pickpocket would probably be number 2 on my list, but some days would be at the top. Most days it's still Balthazar.
