Extract (Judge, 2009)
IMDB:
Variety blurb:
A comedy that follows the personal and professional problems endured by the owner of a flower-extract plant.
Ben Affleck is ready to suit up for Miramax's Mike Judge comedy "Extract."
Actor is in negotiations to play the best buddy of Jason Bateman's character, a flower extract factory owner dealing with workplace problems and a streak of bad luck, including his wife's affair with a gigolo.
Clifton Collins Jr. is also joining the cast as a factory worker who loses a body part in a freak accident and is now due for a huge settlement. Mila Kunis and Kristen Wiig have already boarded the project, which begins lensing Monday in Los Angeles.
Judge penned the screenplay and is producing with John Altschuler and Mike Rotenberg via the trio's Ternion Prods. shingle.

Re: Extract (Judge, 2009)
From Cinema Blend:
Mike Judge continues to be underappreciated. For his next movie Extract, he’s gotten away from Fox, the studio which screwed him over twice and dumped his movies where no one could see them. Now he’s at Miramax, and it looks like they could be positioning themselves to do the same thing.
Extract has a release date, and it’s not a good one. According to Exhibitor Relations they’ve slated the movie for a September 4, 2009 release. That’s right, September, the month where movies go to die. The movie will debut in limited release and then expand the following weekend.

How many screens was Idiocracy on? I don't remember it being around Phoenix.
I don't care what the release date is. Just give it to me at the local multiplex and I'll be happy. I don't want any 500-screen, drive-across-town crap just to see it.

Re: Extract (Judge, 2009)
Mike Judge’s Extract now joins such abandoned, unwatched, and unpromoted early September fare as Bangkok Dangerous and Mike Judge’s last movie Idiocracy.
It’s not all bad. September, though generally regarded as a dumping ground for movies studios don’t really want to release, has spawned a few successful films. Burn After Reading came out in early September of last year and did pretty well. In 2007 3:10 to Yuma was released on September 7th and got a lot of buzz. It’s just hard not to worry if you’re a Judge fan. His last two movies, Idiocracy and Office Space, became huge cult hits, but only after being buried by the studio that funded them. It’s not really the release date which has killed his films, but the unwillingness of his distributors to promote or in the case of Idiocracy, even put them in movie theaters. Let’s hope Miramax isn’t planning to screw him over again. This isn’t a good sign.

My feeling about Idiocracy is that it could have achieved mild greatness if it had been truly completed, but it felt like they made 75% of it and then Fox pulled the plug, and Judge taped it together with voiceover.
On the other hand, "go 'way, 'batin" has joined the list of lines from movies I almost reflexively quote with my friends all the time.
I wonder what Mike Judge thinks about his cosmically bad luck?

When did September become a dump month anyway? I thought January was generally considered the dump month, and I also remember (long ago) reading an article in Entertainment Weekly I think it was about how October was also bad.

Idiocracy had great moments & great lines. It may not have come together fully as a movie, but damned if didn't become a cult hit.
I think Mike Judge should only do direct-to-video movies so they can slowly grow into cult phenomenons. It would just feel strange otherwise. His movies tend to play better on the small screen anyway.
