I would say Cars, but that wasn't overly criticized as far as I am concerned. I will go with Lee's Hulk. Everyone I know hated that movie. I really liked it.

Man I might get butchered, but The Beach... I saw this again recently and really enjoyed the hell out of it. I know lots of ppl hated it, but for some reason I always thought it was a cool movie.

Sounding like a broken record, but Ang Lee's "Hulk" is the first one that springs to mind- it's going to go down in history as a bomb, but it's one of my favorite comic book movies. It deserves to be reevaluated.

Re: Movies that you think are unfairly/overly criticized this decade

I think the hate for Crash is over the top. It got mixed reactions when it came out. Once it won Best Picture, almost everyone started hating it. It's not as profound as it thinks it is, and it's a little ott at times, but it is quite an entertaining movie.

First thing that pops in my mind is Texas Chainsaw Massacre Remake. I did like it better than the original, and yes I'm now prepared for the "The original is a classic/You don't understand good movies/Anything attached to Michael Bay is the anti-christ" talk.

Re: Movies that you think are unfairly/overly criticized this decade

On this forum, Chicago (obviously it won best picture so outside of this forum it's probably not unfairly criticized). I enjoyed it very much, saw it twice in theaters even which I almost never do. It gets much hate in this forum--even in this thread, although the person who mentioned it also doesn't know what overly-criticized means.

Good pick. It's a bit out of scope, but that's one film I was thinking of when I saw the subject header.

I agree, but based on the last shot of the movie I don't think that even Costner understood this.

-King Kong (Though it got good reviews, Online people always seem to knock the movie, I think its one of my favorite movies)

-DareDevil (not a great movie, but people slam this movie, its not a bad flick)

-SpeedRacer

-Matrix Sequels

-Micheal Bay flicks (his movies look great, great at action and are always a fun ride)

-War of the Worlds (an awesome thrilling ride)

-Indiana Jones Crystal Skull (Good old fun, cheesy in parts but a fun adventure film)

Re: Movies that you think are unfairly/overly criticized this decade

good choices.

Miami Vice, Ali was also an amazing film
The Beach
The Life Aquatic
Spanglish
Superman Returns

would say something like Bad Boys II, which I loved, but all the criticism that movie got was well deserved. It's just a guilty pleasure, I don't exactly consider it a good film, like the others.

I'll say Matrix: Reloaded. I enjoyed it and feel it was an excellent action flick once they got past the first hour. Revolutions was horrible.

Nice thread to resurrect.

I think alot of the hate was because of what film it beat. After that, it became "hip" to hate on Crash.

I for one, never understood why there was so much hate for Michael Bay films. He is not remaking Shakespeare here. he is making big budget, summer, popcorn, blow alot of shit up, mindless action movies. And he succeeds in that goal, in my opinion. I have never watched one of his movies and not been entertained. Sure it is mindless, but it is fun.

To this day, Titanic is reviled by many. For years it was THE movie to attack, in a kind of "bashing it makes us cool" way.

Oh of that I have no doubt; it's just difficult to wrap my head around a film that won 11 Oscars (and making near $2 billion worldwide in 98 dollars) being overly criticized. I still love it though.

Speaking of which, when does the "Paranormal Activity" backlash kick in? You know it's coming...
