Alright, someone has to say it. Star wars episodes 2 & 3 (I can't defend Episode 1).

Unfairly Citicized:
Southland Tales- When I finaly saw it, I couldn't belive how much people hated it. Sure it wasn't perfect, and sometimes it doesn't make much sence, but I've seen films that are ten times worse than this. Give it a couple of years and it will become a cult film.
Munich- Citicized because Spielberg gave us his first film that doesn't have a happy ending. Citicized because Spielberg at last gave us a thiller that shows he can deal with dark materal without having to make amens *see War of the Worlds* and give us a rose colored ending where everything is going to be ok. In years to come I think people will change their minds about this film.
Cars- Does every film that Pixar makes have to be as good as Finding Nemo or Wall*E? Not every film that they make is going to be as good as those films. And that doesn't mean that because Cars doesn't equal those films that it's a bad film. In fact, I think Cars is the most fun out of all the Pixar films.
Overly Criticized-
Crash- In a year with so many great films, this film had to be the one to win best picture out of guilt? I've seen the film 2 times and I still don't see what is so great about this film. When the film came out I think I was the only person whom called the film a Lifetime made for tv movie with big stars in it.

The Star Wars prequels.

The other, of course, involves orcs and a magic ring.

Constantine - reviews were not so hot, and a lot of the comic book purists were so upset that it didn't stick to the comic. I loved it.

Reign of Fire. I know a lot of people who enjoy it, but it seems like it often gets automatically dismissed as a whole.

Spielberg's War of the Worlds. Yeah, the ending was pretty weak, but so much of the film was harrowing and extremely effective. If not for the Oprah-couch jumping incident perhaps this film would have gotten a more warm reception.

I think Mr & Mrs Smith was a damn fine action film that got unfairly criticized for the whole Brangela thing. Taken on its own merits, it's a fine film.

I thought Walk Hard was funny as hell. Yeah, it wasn't Superbad or Knocked Up, but as far as a genre spoof goes, it was right on the money.

The New World

One of my favorite movies of the decade. I'm going to go with the ol' "critics didn't get it" excuse.

Alexander

Maybe critics and audiences were tired of epic battle movies but Alexander worked for me. The storytelling is a little disjointed and can be alienating but it's still fascinating epic film.

Am I crazy, or is there a small group of people here who have no idea what the term "overly criticized" means?

I noticed that too. Shouldn't it be justifiably criticized or something.

Alien vs. Predator - Good setup, good action, scary, and damn entertaining. Is it perfect? No, but it's fun.

Spider-Man 3 - There are people that HATED this film, and I can't understand it. It's got some god-awful moments, but it's also got some great ones. A damn good part three that didn't deserve so much hate.

Tomb Raider - Indiana Jones meets Batman, and she's a woman. This movie was a lot of fun, but then again I might be biased since I never played the video game.

End of Days - Scary, touching, and action packed, this is the freakiest movie to such awesome explosions, and who knew Arnie had dramatic range? I still love this movie.

Wild Wild West - Call me a sucker for "steampunk," but I enjoyed this as much as I did the original Men in Black. The first exchange between Will Smith and Kenneth Branagh is one of the funniest exchanges I've ever seen on film. And I love the f/x.

Alien 3 - I don't get it. Okay, it's not action-packed like the last one, but neither was the original. This is an ugly, baroque, gothic horror film, that perfectly rounds out the series.

The Postman - If Costner hadn't starred in AND directed it, would it have the flack? Probably not. A very touching story about the importance of communcation and giving hope to the hopeless, and what hope can manifest. Though if you watch the film closely, the REAL hero is Larenz Tate's character, Ford Lincoln Mercury.

No I think you are thinking AVP requiem, I have all but pretended that film doesn't exist due to the PG-13 rating. The second one is good gory fun.

there are plenty, but the last movie I saw that I thought was overly criticized was "You Don't Mess With The Zohan."

I liked AVP better then Requiem. Requiem was terrible and one of the worst movies i've seen, whereas the first AVP was just underwhelming.

I'd agree with both Matrix sequels. I enjoyed them both.

I liked X-Men 3 better then Superman Returns.

It wasn't out of guilt. It was because the Academy was too chickenshit to vote for Brokeback (not to mention there are documented interviews with Tony Curtis and Ernest Borgnine flat out admitting they refused to watch the film because of its story content; kind of like the story back in 2004/2005 about all the Jewish members of the Academy who supposedly went to Academy screenings of Passion of the Christ, booed and spit at the screen and left before the movie started - I'm of the mind that you should actually see a movie before you criticize it. There were many a Rabbi who saw Passion and saw nothing anti-semitic about it) and Roger Ebert/Oprah Winfrey/Lionsgate all combined forces to make Crash more visible in the Academy's eyes (i/e: constantly talking about it for no reason and the 130,000 DVD screeners sent out).

Wow... you think next time you can make a point without a backhanded antisemitic comment?

They got horns too, ya hear about that?

Especially since those same "critics" seem to love "Shoot 'em Up" so much....

The second one is entertaining garbage, but aside from the use of childhood icons, there's not really a positive thing I can say about it, other than that it was "dark."
