OK, this is going to be tough, since I can't give you much to work with, because it is VERY vague in my memory... I'm 33, must have seen it sometime early 80's, if not late 70's...

I vaguely remember this movie, about two astronauts... one ends up dying in an explosion (perhaps self-sacrifice?), back on Earth, I think in a big warehouse, or hangar... I think it had something to do with a government conspiracy...

One of the astronauts was the standard hollywood handsome type, like a young Paul Newman (but nothing in his IMDB resume rings a bell), the guy that gets blown up was sort of the dough-faced comic relief guy, I think he even had sort of a straight brown "Moe" haircut...

wow... if any of you get this from this lousy description, you are truly amazing.

ALSO:

I think the guy that ended up getting killed, was also in another movie that I'd like to ID... I just remember an amazing gun fight between commandos, guys dressed in white, in the snow... fighting in and around these large , stacked above ground pipe remnants..

WTF?!!!

Somebody should really start an "OFFICIAL Help me name this movie!" thread.

And you sure you weren't just playing Metal Gear Solid

The second one you are looking for is "World War III" an early 80's TV miniseries.

So maybe the actor is Rock Hudson, then perhaps the "Martian Chronicles" for the first...but I'm not sure. I'm sure about the second though.

YES! It is "World War III", and based on the cast listed for that movie in IMDB, the other movie is likely "Hangar 18".

The common thread is James Hampton!

I am seriously LOL'ing at myself for just calling "Gary Collins" a hollywood handsome Paul Newman-type. hahaah... ahh, memories.

thanks flixtime!

The only scene I recall in Hangar 18 was the ending when they survived the fire in the spacecraft.

Did WWIII have an ending with the scene split in 2-3 parts and an assassin positioned a rifle through a T-shaped slit in an armored car?
