If you break the embargo you threaten your publication's relationship with the studio. Even if GL sucks, not every WB movie will and you'll lose a lot more money if you can't put up early reviews of other movies.

so it's a like a handshake deal? No legal penalties? Or a contract thing...where you break the contract and get screwed?

As Suprmallet mentioned, if you break an embargo you've basically ruined your relationship with the studio or source. Other than that though, there aren't any real legal remedies like monetary damages.

So is there a consensus on the 3D for this film yet? I'm not a huge fan of 3D, and the only film to really work for me was Avatar - not that I've seen many in 3D (Tron did nothing for me). However, I do think TF3 will be a good 3D property. I feel like the effects of the ring would work really well in 3D, but at the same time I know Campbell didn't film for 3D and that anything was done in post production.

Avatar was the one I cared to see in 3D. Any films after that..not so much. Well wait..I saw TS3 in 3D (had a free ticket)...didn't do much. Felt like it barely did anything to tell me it was 3D at all....not that it had to explode in my face with it..but I barely noticed it at all and felt it didn't need it.

Probably not, but at least they are allowing reviews to be posted before Friday. I just wonder if all of these trailers and clips they've been throwing us is another sign that WB is a bit worried about the film. There's been tons of different tv spots and clips released here and there. It almost comes off as desperation.
This probably needs to open at least to $50 million and not have massive drops.

The figure of $300 million is being bandied about as the film's cost, although "(including marketing)" is thrown in there as well. Here's the story:

Box Office Mojo has the production budget at $150 mil. We have seen tons of ads, so I wouldn't be shocked if the marketing was that high as well. There's Green Lantern promos all over the place.

Well X-Mean FC has made a lot in international sales. Also, we don't readily get to see the figures pulled in from other tie in promotions like food and toys. I'm sure the studio is paid big money to license out the figures to tie in. I think the biggest issue GL will face is competition. It likely would have done better 4 weeks earlier on an end of July release. I guess it has a week breather, but then TF3 hits, followed by HP and Cap.
Really? I just looked and it said N/A.

from what I can find...GL's production budget is at $150 million. Which I don't how accurate that is compared to the report you got WITH the marketing...that's a lot of marketing if it's true.

I've seen at least $9M added to the budget for FX recently. However, that still leaves $40M, and I can't believe they spent that much to market when they didn't even have a Super Bowl commercial.

I have a really, really hard time believing the reports that say they are only expecting a $50 million dollar weekend opening . that's ridiculous. with the amount of promo they have done for the movie as well as a semi-recognizable Ryan Reynolds, there's no way it opens that low.
