Juno -- d: Jason Reitman -- s: Ellen Page

Juno seems to be getting good buzz, and I think the trailer looks good:

Yeah this movie has deafening buzz right now.

Ivan Reitman's son? Check. (Well more, Director of TYFSmoking)
Written by a blogger and former stripper? Check.
Awards hype for Ellen Page? Check.
George Michael (Bluth)? Check.
Won at TIFF? Check.

Great cast, looks good.

I hope this isn't a threadcrap but I gotta say I think this looks awful. Fox Searchlight has been stringing out the "quirky funny indie" line since Garden State (followed by Napoleon Dynamite and Little Miss Sunshine) and this is clearly this year's entry into that picturesque string of hits. I think these movies are getting more and more self-aware and it's slowly moving from amusing and sweet to annoying and overly cutesy. I'm a big fan of Jason Reitman and I'm an even bigger fan of Arrested Development and its cast members, but I can't bring myself to jump on board this one.

Well, I hope it's better than Garden State and Napoleon Dynamite, but who knows. One review said the trailer is sort of misleading and doesn't do the film justice, but he liked LMS too, so that probably won't make you feel any better.

Anything with a cast member from Arrested Development at least has me interested, but to have both Michael AND George Michael in one film? Sold.

That's probably my favorite trailer right now. I love the use of the Mott the Hoople song.

The very first time I saw this trailer, it became my top "must see" flick. I can't wait to be able to check this one out.

This movie does not disappoint. Loads better than Garden State or Napoleon Dynamite: ridiculously clever, constantly funny, very very heartfelt. Just great all around.

Fantastic film. Great screenplay and acting. Although the dialogue may seem strange at the start, Reitman directs a film, that at the end is near impossible to dislike. Go see as soon as you can.

9/10

I'm going again tonight. If I go to a third screening I can try and win a Les Paul guitar.

caught this last night.

great movie, great cast. allison janney is perfection and possibly deserves a best supporting nom.

also, jennifer garner, whom i usually strongly dislike, was pretty likable in this film. ellen page can come off uncomfortably mean/bitchy/annoying, but there is a lot to counteract that.

edit to add: i just read the 1/2 star review on dvd talk (i believe there is also a 4 1/2 star review), and i strangely agree with almost everything the reviewer said. nevertheless, this movie was fun as hell to watch and i will surely buy it when it comes out.

Thanks! Finally something cool is happening in Tucson. We'll be there first in line on Tues.

I love this film already and plan to see it no less than 5 times before I buy it on dvd.

Love the trailer too.

You can find the interview of Diablo Cody on Letterman on youtube when her book about stripping came out and she seemed very smart and cool. I really thought she'd become a successful author, but, wow, a great screenplay, awards, and I think she's writing a tv show now for Speilberg.

Lots of buzz around Juno and Page right now, and even if the film loses a bit of momentum it still looks like it'll be the surprise/dark horse feel good entry into the Best Picture race.

Love Ellen Page, Michael Cera, Janney and Garner in this flick. I think the cast really made the movie work, because I loved it in spite of the script. I thought the dialogue was trying WAY TOO HARD to be hip, edgy and smart. Some of that started to bug the shit out of me, but everyone saying the lines is so damn good, I could get over it and still enjoy the flick. In the end I loved the movie despite being slightly annoyed every now and then. Well worth seeing and mostly lives up to the hype. Cast, music and Jason Reitman Diablo Cody

Well, it was only Reitman and the marvelous cast that read the script and loved it enough to desperately want to make the fim, which they had no idea how it would turn out until they saw it. Reitman seems like a good bet, but you never really know. So, it's kind of funny people trashing the very person who came up with the idea and wrote the lines that made the people you want to now exclusively heap praise on to be in the movie and I think, they'd be the first to say and have said, that the marvelous script very much helped them with their perfomances.

Besides, even in a Diablo Cody script, you'll never find a line that reads:

"but everyone saying the lines is so damn good...."
