Donnie Yen's FLASHPOINT
For HK action movie fans, well worth checking out. Donnie gives us Hong Kong cinema's take on MMA (Mixed martial arts) in this movie. We see many familiar MMA moves (flying armbars, triangle chokes, real naked chokes, leg locks, thai clinch etc) depicted in the unique kinetic HK style
Very good movie with a great last third

I loved SPL, and if I'm being completely honest, Flashpoint is the main reason I decided to attend the Toronto film festival this year. I could have picked up an import DVD - but the lure of watching this with an audience of people who would be totally into it was too much.

I didn't really like part 1, but I just ordered just for the fighting. Hopefully its structured better than the first one

I saw the trailer the other day and... well... I wasn't very excited about it. Looks like another story-less film.

It's about the same as SPL. Slow to start but really picks ups in the last third. I don't know if this deserves a spoiler----

a guy at the martial arts DVD kiosk at Tyson's Corner showed me a sequence from the movie - with Donnie pummeling some guy - ouch, wow, oh that's gotta hurt - didn't care for SPL but this little scene perked my interest - alot.

The R3 is scheduled for release 9/28. Region 1 most likely next year.

This film is as poor as SPL was. If you liked SPL, you'll like this one. If you didn't like SPL, then avoid this like the plague. It's up here at the TIFF playing right now

SPL was a poor film, but wound be being memorable and entertaining due to a couple great fight scenes and a nice ending. If Flashpoint can hold up similarly, I'd be pretty happy with it.

Looking forward to this. I jsut pre-ordered the LE.
Like most of the others in here, I enjoyed SPL mainly for the action. Hopefully Flashpoint is worthy follow-up. Is this really a sequel/prequel ?? I thought it was just a movie made by the same director / action choreographer. |

I've had SPL sitting on my shelf unwatched for a while now... Maybe its time to check both of these out now.

Flashpoint is great because it is the first time i have seen dynamic MMA moves in a HK action film
fight scenes are great, story is not bad

I just saw it today. Its funny watching real MMA fights then watching the same moves done in a movie and the other guy is still fighting after life and limb threatening moves

Just watched it - big disappointment. I liked SPL, but thought this one was crappy. Cliche and lazy writing and light on the fighting. The MMA stuff was interesting I guess, but Louis Koo's George Hamilton suntan ruined anything good this movie had going for it. If you must - just rent it and watch it on fast forward - like porn - through the talking bits and hit play for the fights. Forgettable. Why so much hype on this movie? And why do people think this is on par with SPL?
