The Hobbit
Peter Jackson to Return for The Hobbit?
New Line Cinema has given "The Lord of the Rings" fans, who want to see director Peter Jackson return for The Hobbit, some hope. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, studio founder Bob Shaye commented on the matter: Eager to move ahead with "The Hobbit," New Line has quietly been trying to mend fences with "Rings" filmmaker Peter Jackson, who has sued the company over his share of profits from the first "Rings" films. When asked if it was true that company insiders had been in talks with Jackson's reps, Shaye replied, "Yes, that's a fair statement. Notwithstanding our personal quarrels, I really respect and admire Peter and would love for him to be creatively involved in some way in 'The Hobbit.'" According to Stuff.co.nz, Ian McKellen also said there was no doubt that a rumored reprisal of his Gandalf role in a film version of The Hobbit would be discussed with Jackson and [Fran] Walsh. The site contacted Jackson's spokesman, who added: "Peter and Fran have always wanted to 'The Hobbit' but whether that happens is yet to be decided." COMINGSOON.NET

My biggest question: Who plays Bilbo?
Ian Holm is too old to carry the part for the entire movie--yet he's already acted out one scene from The Hobbit on film already. Will the difference in a new cast member be noticeable?

Should be a question mark in the subject header. Better yet, this should have been posted in the existing Hobbit thread.

Oh come on, if they can make Sigourney Weaver look 25 years younger for a Direct TV ad, they can do it for Ian Holm for a massive franchise.

I think Martin Freeman (the guy who played Arthur in Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy) would make an excellent Bilbo.

If I'm not mistaken, Bilbo is always the focus of the action in the book. He would be in every single scene if it follows the book. (Though I've heard new scenes would be added, like parts involving the White Council discussing the "Necromancer.")

Wasn't there supposed to be two movies, the Hobbit and a direct prequel to LOTR?

So now they're saying Jackson might produce and Raimi will direct? Ugh. I know that the potential would still be there, but, c'mon, Jackson needs to direct this. I don't care what New Line has to pay him, just make it happen. Raimi has been slowly losing it since he started in with the Spidey franchise and I don't see him pulling off a huge epic-scale picture like The Hobbit needs to be.

Maybe Raimi can guest-direct the scenes in the forest where the spiders are attacking.

I hope they can get jackson to come back for these films and hope Ian Holm will be able to come back. If he's phyically capable of doing what the demands are I would just hope they put a wig on him again and maybe do a little digital de-aging (even though if they get holm I wouldn't even be bothered if they didnt use any of that de-aging)
Better than Raimi and Topher Grace as Bilbo. |
