It's hard to believe that buy the time this hits theaters that it will have been ten years since FotR was released.

I'm starting to feel old.

I just hope the films aren't bloated like RotK and King Kong.

I want to be pleasantly surprised w/ their hire for director, but I I'll probably wind up disappointed.

Wow, I hadn't thought of that. That's insane. Although, wasn't it December 2001 that FotR hit? So that'd only be 9 years, but it's still feels like yesterday I was in there for the first time watching it.

I'm excited that this is finally being made but I hope that Peter Jackson will end up directing it.

There is no way Jackson won't direct.

Yes, but Part 1 will only deal with leaving home. 3 Hours of it.

I DON'T think Jackson will direct, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone like Guillermo del Toro got asked by Jackson to take the job.

Please let him ask Guillermo Del Toro. A movie like this needs a director with a vision, and the ability to realize that on screen. We don't want another Golden Compass on our hands.

Wouldn't it be easier to just hire a fresh new actor and then digitally insert him into the original trilogy later on?

If Jackson asks, I think Del Toro accepts.

I would very much prefer Del Toro over Raimi.

It's not quite as simple as that, as they had already applied some de-aging techniques back in 2000 on Ian Holm for his part at the beginning of the film (up to when he left the Shire). Now, they'd have the de-age him further. Considering the methods they used (one method was pulling his skin tight and hiding the extra skin under his wig, not a comfortable experience), I'm not sure it's entirely feasible for Ian to look as youthful as he needs to be with just practical effects.

However, they could possibly use digital de-aging, like how they applied it to Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen at the beginning of X3. I don't know how expensive this would be to apply it to the main character over the course of two films, however.

Raimi would do something really lame and have Bilbo break out dancing for no apparent reason

Leonard Nimoy is freakin' awesome. How can you NOT like his singing?
By the way, that song is on an album that also includes "Highly Illogical", which is a song he does as Spock, singing about women and dating.

It's hilarious.

it's not about Nimoy's singing par se, but it's the attrocious attempt at choreography and pure cheeze.
