Re: James Cameron's Avatar - news, rumors, castings..

While he was off by two years (True Lies was awesome), it has been 15 years since Cameron has made an action film. Who knows how he will hold up today.

Don't know, but we're all having to put up with the runs it gave him as he craps all over this thread.

Re: James Cameron's Avatar - news, rumors, castings..

Just in case anyone hasn't seen, here's the new "kid-friendly" spot for Avatar. Although the spot is absolutely ridiculous, it shows a couple new scenes.

Re: James Cameron's Avatar - news, rumors, castings..

It's a new spot that clearly ignores the main premise of the story and makes it completely misleading, trying to find a market with small children. The music and composition is a bit funny, I thought.

Well, it comes across as something for a Spielberg family movie, so there's that.

Holy crap that's a crap spot. It totally makes it generic as hell. In fact...I wouldn't want to see the film based off of that.

Yeah, it only played on Cartoon Network. It's great to see the CGI, but if all the trailers were themed like this I wouldn't see this film.

Fuck...I almost thought they were fucking w/ us cuz that's NO WAY to show a trailer to an adult. Especially a Cameron film...wait...he probably needed to approve that didn't he?

Do we know anything about who Wes Studi's playing? I don't think he's shown up in any shots yet...

what is with people constantly bashing this film on here?

The trailer looks amazing, its James Cameron, Its coming from a solid director one of the best out there.

That TV spot looks amazing, the music doesn't fit, but the movie looks epic, the world looks very orginal and very breathtaking. I am very excited for this movie. I think it looks just awesome. No way did that TV spot look generic.

whenever you create anything with HYPE, you're bound to get the backlash.

and that trailer is awful.

Don't get me wrong- I'm one of the biggest James Cameron fans around and am anticipating Avatar big time. That kiddie trailer just made the movie look like Clone Wars 2: Delgo Boogaloo.

I just shot an interview in James Horner's mixing studio where he had the entire film on his composer. Even with most scenes in their pre-final render CGI stages, the few bits I saw looked incredible.

Judging by the name of his character, I'm thinking a Navi.

Negative reaction to a kiddie trailer does not equal bashing.

It's based more on disappointment than any ill-will towards Jimmy C, fwiw. This movie just looks bad, and I'm not just talking the CGI. It really seems like a cornball rehashed Dances With Blue Alien Wolves in the Land of the Yes Album Covers... hardly something worth spending 15 years of your life on.

Yep'. For that matter, anytime you say anything that matters, you're bound to get some backlash, to some degree.

The solution: we should all shut up and go to sleep.

And Lucas wasn't going for 'kiddie' fare. He was trying to create a universe where things were more innocent and light. It was a setup for the later dark stuff.

Zzzzzzzzzzz.

This is why we're bitching about the TV spot. I have nothing but high hopes based off Cameron's filmography and success in it. That TV spot though...was just shitty. I'd swear it was a different film. The tone it gives off is just totally different from what the trailer gave. I'd swear it was a generic kid thing
